US Tightens Export Controls Of Nuclear Power Items To China
- The Biden administration has tightened controls on the export of materials and components for nuclear power plants to China, saying it would ensure the items were used only for peaceful purposes and not the proliferation of atomic weapons.
- The steps are among the latest signs of strained relations between Washington and Beijing, which have clashed over spying allegations, human rights, China’s industrial policies, and U.S. export bans on advanced technologies.
- The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), an arm of the Commerce Department, now requires exporters to get specific licenses to export certain generators, containers and software intended for use in nuclear plants in China.
- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the federal agency responsible for nuclear energy safety, also requires exporters to get specific licenses to export special nuclear material and source material.
India Building World’s Highest Road, Tunnel, Fighter Jet Base In Eastern Ladakh
- India is building the world’s highest tunnel, motorable road and fighter aircraft base in Eastern Ladakh as part of the government’s push towards strengthening infrastructure for both military and civilian use.
- BRO chief Lt General Rajeev Chaudhry said that the force is going to break its own record of building the highest road at Umlong La Pass two years back and now it will be surpassed in the next two working seasons with the Mig La-Fukche road coming up.
- On August 15, BRO started a road connecting Likru, Mig-La and Phukche at a height of 19400 feet. This will help in the deployment of troops at the earliest if any critical situation arises.
- The BRO Chief said that the military’s road construction organisation will also be starting with the Shinku La tunnel connecting Manali through Zanskar to Leh which will be the highest and will break the record of the MiLa tunnel situated in China.
