Combined Leadership Conclave        

  • Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan presided over the first session of Combined Leadership Conclave and interacted with the senior leadership of the Armed Forces in New Delhi on December 06, 2023. The CDS provided an insight into modern warfare and national security.
  • The three-day conclave focuses on geo-strategic issues, national security & defence, contemporary & emerging security challenges and integration & jointness for capability enhancement as well as ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence.
  • The conclave aims to serve as a development programme for senior officers of the three services, focused on regional and national security issues with a view to enhance synergy, both at operational and strategic levels within the Armed Forces.

United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting

  • Raksha Rajya Mantri Ajay Bhatt participated in the 2023 United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting in Accra, Ghana from 5-6 December 2023. He delivered a statement on behalf of India in the first session on 06 December 2023, essentially outlining the challenges being faced by peacekeepers and role of women in peacekeeping in the current environment.
  • He also announced substantial pledges on behalf of India to support the United Nations peacekeeping operations. India has been the leading troop contributing country to the United Nations peacekeeping effort. In the last seven decades, India has contributed more than 2,75,000 troops in 53 different missions.
  • The United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting is a biennial meeting organized by the United Nations in which all major donors and troop contributing states come together to discuss issues regarding peacekeeping operations under the UN charter.

India-Germany Military Cooperation Subgroup Meeting

  • The 16th edition of the India-Germany Military Cooperation Subgroup (MCSG) meeting was conducted from 05-06 Dec 2023 in New Delhi.
  • The meeting was co-chaired from the Indian side by Brigadier Vivek Narang, Deputy Assistant Chief of Integrated Staff IDC (A), HQ IDS, and Col (GS) Christian Schmidt, Director, Department International Cooperation Armed Forces Office from the German side.
  • India-Germany Military Cooperation Subgroup is a forum established to boost defence cooperation between both nations through regular talks at the strategic and operational levels between the Headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff, and the Department of International Cooperation Armed Forces.

6th NSA-level Meeting of Colombo Security Conclave 

  • National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval arrived in Mauritius on Wednesday to participate in the 6th NSA-level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave.
  • The Colombo Security Conclave comprises India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. On May 9 last year, the 5th NSA -level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave was hosted by the Maldives, during which the NSAs discussed the significance of close cooperation between member and observer countries in maritime safety and security and countering terrorism and radicalization.
  • A permanent Secretariat was established in Colombo, which coordinates all activities of the conclave and is also responsible for the implementation of the decisions taken at the NSA level.

Indian Army Reviews HR Policy

  • The Indian Army is coming out with a comprehensive promotion policy which will be implemented from January 1, 2024.
  • The new promotion policy has been prepared in sync with the ever-evolving operational requirements of the force.
  • The new policy provides for Increased promotional opportunities: It also addresses the aspirations of senior leadership by providing further promotional opportunities to officers in Major General rank, officers approved in Staff only, would be eligible for promotion to the next rank in staff only.
  • The new policy addresses the issue of cadre aspirations of officers of all arms and services by providing almost equitable satisfaction in promotion boards and also strengthening meritocracy.
  • At present HR management of the Indian Army is governed by various policies and provisions which were not uniform in their applicability for various selection boards. This new policy brings in uniformity in the applicability of policies for all selection boards.
