Carl-Gustaf M4: India will make the most feared weapons system in the world

The Carl Gustaf 8.4 cm recoilless rifle is a Swedish – developed 84 mm (3.3in) caliber man-portable shoulder-fired recoilless rifle that was created by the royal Swedish Army Material Administration in the second half of the 1940s as a close-range anti-tank and support weapon for infantry.

It has since enjoyed tremendous success as an export and is now a well-liked multi-purpose support weapon used by many nations. The Carl Gustaf  84 mm recoilless rifle is a lightweight, inexpensive weapon that utilizes a variety of ammunition, making it incredibly versatile and appropriate for a wide range of jobs.

Operations

The weapon is typically operated by a two-man crew, consisting of a gunner who carries the weapon and shoots it and a loader who carries two canisters that each hold two rounds of ammo. If considerable use is anticipated, one or two extra ammunition carriers can be assigned.

Due to the inherent risks of the back blast, it is the loader’s job to search the area behind the weapon for people and objects that could obstruct the back blast during the firing procedure.

The following is a list of some of the ammunition it includes along with its function:

  • HEDP 502/502 RS – Armored vehicles, and adversaries hidden behind a brick, timber, and sandbag fortifications.
  • MT 756 – Light-armored vehicles and enemy soldiers hiding behind or within buildings.
  • ASM 509 – High-pressure blast effects allow enemy soldiers to enter buildings and other structures. Both impact mode and delay mode are available.
  • HEAT 551: This rocket-assisted weapon works well from the side or the back against Main Battle tanks.
  • Prior to breaking through the target’s main armor, HEAT 751 neutralizes explosive reactive armor (ERA).
  • ADM 401: Fires a swarm of flechettes against enemy soldiers riding in soft-skinned vehicles.

Relation of India and SAAB

After the first collaboration agreement for production in India was signed in 1976, the Carl-Gustaf system has been in use by the Indian Army ever since. In the past, Saab has collaborated with Indian businesses to provide parts for its products.
