Govt Appoints 37 New High Court Judges

  • The government has appointed 37 new High Court Judges.
  • This is in continuation of the appointment of 26 High Court Judges in various High Courts. With the notification of the appointments of another 11 High Court Judges in the Punjab & Haryana High Court by the government this year so far 138 appointments in various High Courts of the country have been made.
  • Thus, it has surpassed its earlier record of 126 High Court appointments in  2016.

RBI Against Harassment By Recovery Agents

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked financial institutions that their loan recovery agents should not intimidate or harass any person either physically or verbally for their debt collection efforts.
  • RBI has also advised that agents should not humiliate publicly or intrude upon the privacy of the debtor’s family members, referees, and friends.
  • It has also barred recovery agents from sending inappropriate messages either on mobile or through social media, making threatening and/ r anonymous calls, repeatedly calling the borrower, and/or calling the borrower before 8:00 a.m. and after 7:00 p.m.
  • These instructions will be applicable to all Commercial Banks including Regional Rural Banks, Co-operative Banks, Non-Banking Financial Companies, Asset Reconstruction Companies and All India Financial Institutions. RBI has warned that, any violation in this regard by Recovery agents will be viewed seriously.
  • It  has clarified that, these guidelines will not be applicable to microfinance or collateral-free loan given to a household having an annual income up to ₹3,00,000.

India’s Exports Rise By 11.51% In July

  • The country’s overall exports including merchandise and services exhibited growth last month. Exports registered growth of 11.51 percent over the same period of last year and estimated to be 61.18 billion US dollar.
  • Overall imports also exhibited a growth of 42.90 per cent in comparison to the corresponding period of last year. The country’s imports in the last month are estimated to be 82.22 billion US dollars.
  • Commerce and Industry Ministry said, country overall exports including Merchandise and Services in the last April-July quarter are estimated to be 253.84 billion US dollar exhibiting a growth of 22.85 per cent over the same period last year.
  • The Ministry said, Indian exports was 54.87 billion US dollar and import was 57.54 billion US dollar in July 2021.

PV Sindhu Out Of World Badminton Championships

  • India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu has pulled out of the upcoming BWF World Championships owing to a stress fracture on her left foot. In a statement, Sindhu confirmed that she will be missing the 2022 World Championships.
  • The World Championships will be held in Tokyo from August 21 till August 28. Sindhu has won the gold medal in the women’s singles event at the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games and revealed that she had been playing through pain at Birmingham.
  • Sindhu added a CWG singles gold to her wide array of medals with a convincing straight-game win over Canada’s Michelle Li.

Sri Lanka Grants Permission To Chinese Research Vessel

  • Sri Lanka has granted permission to Chinese research vessel to dock at Hambantota port from August 16. Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister confirmed that the Chinese vessel ‘Yuan Wang-5’, widely believed to be a spy ship, has been given clearance to arrive at Hambantota Port on August 16.
  • The Chinese vessel was earlier scheduled to dock at the Chinese-leased Hambantota port on August 11, but now will arrive on August 16 and will leave on August 22.
