Atal Bihari Vajpayee Remembered On His Punya Tithi
- Atal Bihari Vajpayee (25 December 1924 – 16 August 2018) was an Indian politician and diplomat who served three terms as the prime minister of India, first for a term of 13 days in 1996, then for a period of 13 months from 1998 to 1999, followed by a full term from 1999 to 2004.
- Vajpayee was one of the co-founders and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
- He was a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a Hindu nationalist volunteer organization.
- He was the first Indian prime minister not of the Indian National Congress to serve a full term in office.
- He was also a renowned poet and a writer.
Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Remembered On His Punya Tithi
- Ramakrishna Paramahamsa (18 February 1836 – 16 August 1886), born Gadadhar Chattopadhyaya, was an Indian Hindu mystic and religious leader who lived in the 19th century Bengal.
- After adhering to practices from Bhakti yoga, Tantra, and Advaita Vedanta, as well as Islam and Christianity, he proclaimed that the world’s various religions are “so many paths to reach one and the same goal”.
- His preferred choice of deity was the goddess, Kali.
- Ramakrishna’s followers came to regard him as an avatar, or divine incarnation, as did some of the prominent Hindu scholars of his day.
Subhadra Kumari Chauhan Remembered On Jayanti
- Subhadra Kumari Chauhan (16 August 1904 – 15 February 1948) was an Indian poet. One of her most popular poems is “Jhansi ki Rani” (about the courageous Queen of Jhansi)
- The ICGS Subhadra Kumari Chauhan, an Indian Coast Guard ship, was named for the poet.
- The government of Madhya Pradesh placed a statue of Subhadra Kumari Chauhan before the Municipal Corporation office of Jabalpur.
- On August 6, 1976, India Posts released a postage stamp to commemorate her.
- On 16 August 2021, the search engine Google commemorated Subhadra Kumari with a Doodle on her 117th birth anniversary.

5 Crore Tiranga Selfies On Har Ghar Tiranga Website
- More than five crore Tiranga selfies have been uploaded on the Har Ghar Tiranga website.
- The Union government had recently announced the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign and asked people to exhibit the Tiranga at their homes to mark the country’s 75th independence day.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a call on the 22nd of last month to join the Har Ghar Tiranga movement by hoisting or displaying the national flag at homes.
- Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy said that five crores of Tiranga selfies reflect the collective commitment of duty-bound Indians to keep the Nation first and always first.
- He said this is indeed a special moment of an outpouring of the collective expressions of love and connection for the motherland.
FIFA Suspends All India Football Federation
- The Global Football Governing Body FIFA Has Suspended The All-India Football Federation (AIFF) Due To Undue Influence From Third Parties. In A Statement, FIFA Termed It A Serious Violation Of The FIFA Statutes.
- It Said The Suspension Will Be Lifted Once An Order To Set Up A Committee Of Administrators To Assume The Powers Of The AIFF Executive Committee Has Been Repealed And The AIFF Administration Regains Full Control Of The AIFF’s Daily Affairs.
- The AIFF Ran Into Trouble After Former Chief Praful Patel Stayed In Office Beyond His Term With The Supreme Court Of India Ruling It Invalid. The Apex Court Had Placed The AIFF Under The Aegis Of A Committee Of Administrators (CoA) It Had been Selected In May 2022. The Decision To Suspend The AIFF Comes Even As The Supreme Court Of India Directed That The Election Of The Executive Committee Of The Indian Football Governing Body Be Held Expeditiously.
- The Supreme Court Order Came On A Plea Filed By The Committee Of Administrators Seeking Contempt Action Against AIFF’s Ex-president Praful Patel And Others Alleging Their Interference, Earlier This Month.

- Bangladesh is observing the National Mourning Day mark the brutal killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members on 15th August 1975.

UK Becomes 1st Country To Approve Omicron Vaccine
- The UK has become the first country to authorize a Covid-19 vaccine tailored to the Omicron variant. The move will pave the way for an autumn booster campaign using Moderna’s two-strain shot.
- The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority – which was the first in the world to approve an original Covid-19 jab – has granted conditional authorization to the vaccine, which targets both the original strain of the virus and Omicron BA.1.
- The vaccine is authorized for use in people aged 18 and over but, to prepare for an expected rise in cases over the winter, the UK plans to focus its booster program on the over-fifties and those at higher clinical risk of developing severe Covid.
