EXERCISE FRINJEX-2023 To Commence In Kerala
- The maiden Joint Military Exercise FRINJEX-23 between Indian Army and French Army will be conducted at Pangode Military Station, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on 07th and 08th March 2023. It is the first time armies of both nations are engaging in this format with each contingent comprising a Company Group each from the Thiruvananthapuram-based Indian Army troops and French 6th Light Armoured Brigade.
- The exercise is aimed at enhancing inter-operability, coordination, and cooperation between both forces at the tactical level. The scope of the exercise involves the establishment and operationalization of a joint command post to secure an envisaged area for undertaking joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, establishing an Internally Displaced Population (IDP) camp, and move of disaster relief material.
- The Joint exercise will further cement defense cooperation with France which is a key aspect of the overall Indo-France strategic partnership.

Need To Maintain Constant Vigil On Northern And Western Borders, Coastline: Rajnath Singh
- In a projection of India’s growing maritime prowess, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday addressed the top naval commanders onboard the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in the Arabian Sea and witnessed a mega wargame, amid China’s increasing military posturing in the IOR.
- In his address at the inaugural session of the naval commanders’ conference, the defence minister complimented the force for “standing firm” and protecting national interests with courage and dedication while noting that future conflicts will be unpredictable and the armed forces must be ready to deal with emerging challenges.
- “In the next 5-10 years, orders worth over USD 100 billion are expected to be placed through the defence sector and it will become a major partner in the economic development of the country,” he said.
Defence Intelligence Agencies Raise Alarm Over Threat From Chinese Mobile
- Amid the ongoing military standoff with China on the Line of Actual Control, defence intelligence agencies have issued a strong advisory to formations to ensure that the troops are not using Chinese mobile phones.
- “Formations and units are to sensitize their personnel through various forms and channels to exercise caution with such (Chinese) mobile phone devices,” the advisory issued by the defence intelligence agencies said.
- The spy agencies have asked the units and formations to “carry out the transition to other phones against the phones” mentioned in the list attached to the advisory.
- The Chinese mobile phones available in the commercial market in the country include Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, One Plus, Honor, Real Me, ZTE, Gionee, ASUS, and Infinix.
Captain Deeksha, Doctor Who Served in Turkey, Posted As Medical Officer With Parachute Regiment   Â
- Indian army doctor Captain Deeksha is posted as a Medical Officer with a Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) battalion. Captain Deeksha has undergone rigorous training with the special forces troops.
- She was also part of the team that was sent to earthquake-hit Turkey under Operation Dost.
- Operation Dost is a search and rescue operation initiated by India to aid Syria and Turkey, after the 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquake devastated both countries on 6 February 2023.
- The Indian Army prepared its rescue teams with relief materials within 12 hours after disaster struck (much before the Turkish Army was mobilised).
- The Parachute Regiment, colloquially known as the Para, is an airborne infantry regiment of the British Army. The first battalion is part of the Special Forces Support Group under the operational command of the Director of Special Forces
President Droupadi Murmu in Kerala for the First time, to present President’s Colour Award to INS Dronacharya                                     Â
- President Droupadi Murmu will arrive in Kochi on March 16 to present the ‘President’s Color Award’ to Navy’s INS Dronacharya. The President’s Color Award is the highest recognition given to an armed forces unit. Murmu is visiting Kerala for the first time after becoming the President. The award will be presented at Dronacharya in Fort Kochi on March 16 at 4.30 pm.
- INS Dronacharya in Fort Kochi is a weapons training center for sailors from India and abroad. Dronacharya is an important training center for the Indian Navy, offering training in the use of pistols, missiles, radars, etc. 820 officers and 1200 others are trained annually.
- The training center, which was part of the royal navy before independence, operated in Karachi. After partition, INS Vendurutty was shifted from Karachi, which was part of Pakistan, to Kochi, Willington Island. Later shifted to Fort Kochi beach.
- Dronacharya also handled the security of the naval base and port. Dronacharya also has a huge arsenal of weapons ranging from small guns to missiles. Training is provided in all types of weapons and sophisticated equipment used by the navy. Apart from the Indian Navy, mariners of friendly nations are also regularly given expert training. Coast guard, marine police and state police are also trained.
- The President’s Color Award is the highest recognition given to armed forces units. Officers of the unit will also get a special insignia called ‘Nishan’ worn on the right arm of their uniform. The distinguished service award is presented by the President, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
- Before republic in 1950, the King’s Flag and Queen’s Flag were given. The ‘President of the Republic of India’ Colors’ award started in May 1951. The navy received the first award from Dr Rajendra Prasad.
