MoD Signs Contract With L&T For Procurement Of 41 Indigenous Modular Bridges
- In a major boost to indigenisation of defence equipment under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, Ministry of Defence has approved the proposal for indigenous manufacture of 41 sets of Modular Bridges for the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army. These game-changing bridges have been designed and developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and shall be produced by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) as DRDO-nominated production agency. The contract for the procurement of Modular Bridges was signed with L&T on February 08, 2023 at an estimated cost of over Rs 2,585 crore.
- Each set of Modular Bridge shall consist of seven carrier vehicles based on 8×8 Heavy Mobility Vehicles and two launcher vehicles based on 10×10 Heavy Mobility Vehicles. Each set shall be capable of mechanically launching a single span fully decked 46-meter assault bridge. The bridge can be employed over various types of obstacles like canals & ditches with quick launching and retrieval capabilities. The equipment is highly mobile, versatile, rugged and capable of keeping pace with wheeled and tracked mechanized vehicles.
- The modular bridges will replace the manually-Âlaunched Medium Girder Bridges (MGB) that are currently being used in the Indian Army. The indigenously designed and manufactured Modular bridges shall have many advantages over the MGB such as increased span, less time for construction and mechanical launching with retrieval capability. The procurement of these bridges will give a major boost to the bridging capability of the Indian Army on the Western Front. The project will showcase India’s progress in designing and developing world class military equipment and pave the way for enhancing defence exports to friendly countries.

Western Sanctions Will Not Disrupt India-Russia Defence Partnership: BrahMos Chief   Â
- The India-Russia defence partnership will “never” be disrupted by the Western sanctions on Moscow, BrahMos Aerospace chief said on Wednesday, saying it’s the “trust” that makes this partnership work. The West, led by the US, has imposed crippling sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
- BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between India and Russia that specialises in nuclear-capable supersonic missiles.
- The company currently manufactures the BrahMos missile and is currently developing the BrahMos II, a hypersonic cruise missile.
- Unlike many other leading Western powers, India has not directly criticised Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and abstained from a vote at the UN platforms to condemn the Russian aggression.
Quad Nations Launch ‘Quad Cyber Challenge’ To Improve Cyber Security
- The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue or Quad comprising India, United States, Japan and Australia on Wednesday launched a public campaign ‘Quad Cyber Challenge’ to improve cyber security across their nations.
- The Quad has invited Internet users across the Indo-Pacific and beyond to become part of the challenge and practice “safe and responsible cyber habits,” the National Security Council Secretariat said.
- The ‘Quad Cyber Challenge’ shows the continuous efforts of Quad nations to bolster cyber security awareness and action and to foster a more secure and resilient cyber ecosystem to benefit economies and users.
- The National Security Council Secretariat noted, “Internet-users worldwide are targets of cybercrime and other malicious cyber threats that can cost trillions of dollars each year and compromise sensitive, personal data.”
- It further said, “Many successful cyber-attacks can be guarded against by simple preventative measures. Together, Internet users and providers can take small steps to significantly improve cybersecurity and cyber safety.”
- The steps include routinely installing security updates, enabling enhanced identity checks through multi-factor authentication, using stronger and regularly changing passphrases, and knowing how to identify common online scams, like phishing.
- The Quad Cyber Challenge provides resources, including basic cybersecurity information and training for all users, from corporations to educational institutions, small businesses and individuals and will culminate in events during the week of April 10.

Fibe Receives ISO/IEC 27001 Certification For ISMS
- Fibe, India’s largest consumer lending platform, is happy to announce its ISO/IEC 27001 certification. ISO/IEC 27001 is the world’s most widely recognized information security management standard.
- The certification serves as a competitive advantage for Fibe to ensure the security of assets including its Mobile App, digital lending business, intellectual property, and employee information for financial services including data that is provided by third parties.
