Defence Current Affairs 17 October 2022 

India-Africa Defence Dialogue To Be Held On October 18      

  • Rajnath Singh will host the Defence Ministers of African Nations during the India-Africa Defence Dialogue on October 18, 2022, on the sidelines of the 12th DefExpo in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The broad theme of the dialogue is ‘India-Africa: Adopting Strategy for Synergising and Strengthening Defence and Security Cooperation’.
  • India and Africa share close and historical ties. India’s approach towards Africa is guided by the Kampala Principles enunciated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2018. India’s engagement rests on African priorities as outlined by Africans themselves.
  • The first-ever India-Africa Defence Ministers Conclave was held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in conjunction with DefExpo on February 06, 2020. A Joint Declaration – ‘Lucknow Declaration’ – was adopted at the end of the conclave as an outcome document.
  • In continuance of the ‘Lucknow Declaration’ and in consultation with stakeholders, IAAD has been institutionalised to be held once every two years on the sidelines of DefExpo. The IADD will explore new areas of convergence for mutual engagement, including in areas like capacity building, training, cyber security, maritime security and counterterrorism.
  • Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) is the knowledge partner for the India-Africa Defence Dialogue.

Indian Navy Sailing Championship 2022              

  • Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala will be conducting the Indian Navy Sailing Championship 2022 at the state-of-the-art Marakkar Watermanship Training Centre from 18 -21Oct 22. This mega championship under the aegis of the lndian Naval Sailing Association (INSA) at IHQ MoD (Navy) is the largest intra-Navy sailing regatta in which nearly 100 yatchpersons from all three Indian Naval Commands, incl. 15 Officer Trainees of INA will participate.
  • Intrepid yatchpersons – men and women, match their skills, team spirit and leadership qualities in Team Racing Format in Enterprise and Match Racing Format in Laser Bahia classes.
  • Participants individual skills and expertise will be tested in Fleet Racing format in ILCA 6 class of boats for women, ILCA 7 class of boats for men and the Open Bic Nova windsurfing board.

Indian Army Signs Historic MOU With Eleven Banks For Agniveer Salary Package        

  • The Indian Army has signed a historic MoU with 11 Banks viz SBI, PNB, Bank of Baroda, IDBI Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Yes Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IDFC First Bank and Bandhan Bank for providing banking facilities to Agniveers on enrollment.
  • The MoUs were signed by Lt Gen V Sreehari, DG (MP & PS) and senior officials of Banks in a ceremony presided over by Lt Gen C Bansi Ponappa, the Adjutant General of Indian Army on 14 October 2022.
  • The features and benefits offered under Agniveer Salary Package are similar to the Defence Salary Package. In addition, the banks have offered soft loans to exiting Agniveers to promote and enhance their entrepreneurial skills. The first batch of Agniveers under “Agnipath Scheme” will be joining Training Centres by January 2023.

38th Raising Day of National Security Guard                           

  • General Manoj Pande COAS and All Ranks of Indian Army convey best wishes to All Ranks, Veterans & Families of National Security Guard NSG on the occasion of 38th Raising Day.
  • The NSG is a Federal Contingency force to deal with anti-terrorist activities. The NSG is a force equipped and trained to deal with the specific situation and is therefore used in exceptional circumstances to thwart serious acts of terrorism.
  • It was established in 1984, NSG is popularly known as the Black Cats. It is an elite striking force in the country trained and equipped to handle situations like a terrorist attack, hijacking, and hostage captivity.

To Commemorate 76th Infantry Day, the Indian Army Is Organising A Bike Rally 

  • To commemorate the 76th Infantry Day, which is celebrated on 27 October, the Infantry fraternity is organising an “Infantry Day Bike Rally 2022” comprising four simultaneous bike rallies from all cardinal directions: Shillong, Wellington, Ahmedabad and Jammu from 16 October 2022.
  • The bike rally will cover the length and breadth of the country and culminate at the National War Memorial on “Infantry Day”. Each group consisting of ten bikers, will cover a cumulative journey of 8000 km to showcase the ‘Esprit-de-Corps’ of the Infantry.
  • The “Bayonet Bikers” will interact with Veer Naris, veterans, NCC cadets, students and the local populace enroute to pay tribute to the valour and sacrifices of the Infantry soldiers and their families, as well as renew the connection with all of them.
  • The biker groups are spearheaded by the Assam Regiment from Shillong, the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment from Ahmedabad, Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment from Udhampur and the Madras Regiment from Wellington.
