Indian Army Gets Made-In-India Drone Systems To Monitor LAC

  • One of the key additions to the firepower of the Indian Army is the new Mini Remotely Piloted Aerial System (RPAS) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh handed over indigenously developed equipment and systems to the Indian Army in New Delhi on August 16, 2022.

    • The RPAS empowers the Army by removing the restricted capability for surveillance, detection and reconnaissance at the level of infantry battalions and mechanised units.
    • The handing over of the new equipment was part of the government’s efforts to enhance the combat readiness of the armed forces in view of the military standoff with Chinese troops in several friction points for over two years.
    • “The LCA is much more versatile and has overcome the limitations of launch, speed and capacity. It has enhanced the capability to operate across the water obstacles in eastern Ladakh,” the defence ministry said.

North Korea Fires 2 Cruise Missiles Ahead Of Military Drills Between US-Seoul

  • North Korea fired two cruise missiles in the wee hours of Wednesday, citing the Seoul Defense Ministry officials. The launch came right before a speech by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to mark his 100th day in office, during which he underlined to provide North Korea with aid, if it agreed to end nuclear weapons development.
  • Cruise missiles, unlike ballistic missiles, stay closer to the ground, making them harder to detect as they are propelled by jet engines.
  • North Korea has had a flurry of recent missile tests, with Wednesday’s marking the 18th launch this year.
  • North Korea has always dodged US requests for denuclearization talks sent through third parties and Pyongyang appears to show no interest in returning to the negotiating table.
  • The last missile launch took place on June 5 with eight short-range ballistic missiles which South Korea and the US responded to by firing eight more missiles into waters off the east coast of the Korean Peninsula.
