Launch Of ‘ANDROTH’, Second Ship Of ASW                                     

  • ‘Androth’, the second of the 08 x ASW Shallow Water Craft (SWC) Project, being built by M/s GRSE for Indian Navy was launched on 21 Mar 23 at M/s GRSE, Kolkata. The ship made her first contact with the water of the Hooghly River at the Launch Ceremony presided over by VAdm Dinesh K Tripathi, FOC-IN-C (West).
  • The ship has been named Androth to signify the strategic maritime importance accorded to the island of Androth, located about 170 Nm northwest of Kochi, in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
  • The ASW SWC ships will have over 80% indigenous content, thereby ensuring that large-scale defence production is executed by Indian manufacturing units, generating employment and capability enhancement within the country.

India-Jordan 2nd Consultative Meeting on Defence Cooperation       

  • The second Consultative Meeting on Defence Cooperation between India and Jordan was held today in New Delhi. The two countries discussed a range of issues including military training and courses, Cyber Security, military exercises, military medicine, and capacity building in various areas to enhance defence engagements. Both sides also exchanged their respective capabilities in defence industry and research & development for forging collaborations in mutually beneficial areas.
  • The Jordanian delegation also interacted with the representatives of defence industry. The meeting was co-chaired by Shri Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, and Brigadier General Hasan Dakhlallah Nimer Al-Sbeihat, Director, Directorate of Military Training, Jordan.

INS Sujata Visits Port Maputo, Mozambique    

  • INS Sujata, a ship based at Southern Naval Command, Kochi, visited Port Maputo, Mozambique as a part of  Overseas Deployment from 19 to 21 Mar 23.
  • The ship was received by Captain Nitin Kapoor, DA Pretoria, Commandant NRN Siva Babu, Coast Guard Afloat Support Team, and Captain Florentino Jose’ Narciso from Mozambican Navy amidst the fanfare of Mozambican Navy Band and traditional dance performances at the jetty.
  • About 40 personnel of the Mozambican Navy visited the ship for Cross deck training, which included a walkaround of training facilities, briefing about diving ops, training on VBSS and light weapons, visual communication, and maintenance of machinery and hygiene onboard.

Paras Defence Wins Contract Worth Rs 64 Crore                   

  • Paras Defence and Space Technologies on Tuesday said it won a contract for an avionics suite for Saras MK – 2 aircraft from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Aerospace Laboratories, Bengaluru, totaling Rs 64 crore for which deliveries are to be done in financial 2023-24 (FY24).
  • Saras is the first Indian multi-purpose civilian aircraft in the light transport aircraft category as designed by the CSIR-NAL, according to a statement released by Paras Defence and Space Technologies on Tuesday.
  • The Avionics suite of Saras MK – 2 Aircraft is the complete glass cockpit of the aircraft, including all the equipment related to control, monitoring, communication, navigation, weather, and anti-collision systems along with an auto-pilot system.

IAF’s Balakot-Fame Mirage 2000 Participates For the First Time In Cobra Warrior 

  • Indian Air Force Balakot operations fame Mirage 2000 took part for the first time in the United Kingdom multi-national exercise Cobra Warrior 2023 at the Waddington air base.
  • IAF is participating with Five Mirage-2000 jets, two C-17 Globemaster-III strategic airlift planes, and one IL-78 mid-air refueling aircraft, along with around 100 IAF personnel, flew from the Jamnagar air-base for the exercise at Waddington in the UK.
  • The exercise is scheduled from March 6 to 24.
  • The Exercise Cobra Warrior is a multilateral Air exercise in which Air Forces from Finland, Sweden, South Africa, the United States of America, and Singapore are participating alongside the Royal Air Force and IAF.
