Defence Secretary & CPO, Royal Bhutan Army meet in New Delhi    

  • Chief Operations Officer, Royal Bhutan Army Lt Gen Batoo Tshering called on Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane in New Delhi on November 01, 2022, during his visit to India. During their interaction, they discussed ongoing defence cooperation between the two country’s Armies and reviewed areas of mutual interest to increase cooperation.
  • The Defence Secretary congratulated Lt Gen Batoo Tshering on completion of 17 years as the COO, RBA. Lt Gen Batoo Tshering was enthusiastic about the positive connect with Indian Military Training Team and acknowledged their contribution to the well-being of Bhutan since 1962.
  • Shri Giridhar Aramane acknowledged the National Service Program (Gyalsung) launched by His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. He discussed possible avenues of cooperation between India and Bhutan in the area of skill development of youth.
  • Lt Gen Batoo Tshering was appreciative of the review he carried out of the Passing Out Parade at Officers Training Academy, Chennai. The Defence Secretary and COO, RBA acknowledged the strong bonds of friendship between India and Bhutan and reinforced the commitment of both sides to continue the bonhomie and friendship.

Indian Army Registers ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ of the New Design & Camouflage Pattern Uniform 

  • The process for registration of the new Camouflage Pattern and Design of Improved Combat Uniform to establish ownership of Indian Army has been completed by the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademark, Kolkata.
  • The registration has been published in the official journal of the Patent Office vide Issue No No 42/2022 dated 21 October 2022. The new Digital Pattern Combat Uniform for Indian Army soldiers was unveiled on 15 January 2022 (Army Day).
  • The exclusive IPR of the Design and Camouflage Pattern now rests solely with the Indian Army, and therefore manufacturing by any vendor who is not authorized to do so will be illegal and is liable to face legal repercussions.
  • As part of the process of introduction of the new pattern uniform, a total of 50,000 sets have already been procured through Canteen Stores Department (CSD) and delivered to 15 CSD Depots (Delhi, Leh, BD Bari, Srinagar, Udhampur, Andaman & Nicobar, Jabalpur, Masimpur, Narangi, Dimapur, Bagdogra, Lucknow, Ambala, Mumbai and Khadki). Workshops to train civil and military tailors in stitching the new uniform as per the specified design are being organised in coordination with instructors from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) at Delhi. Bulk procurement of 11.70 lakh sets to cater for issue to JCOs and OR as part of individual kit (Life Cycle Concept with life of 15 months) is in progress and is likely to commence from August 2023.

International Defence Engineering Expo Opens In Mumbai   

  • Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt inaugurated the ‘MET & HTS 2022’ international defence exhibition at the Bombay Exhibition Centre on Wednesday, officials said.
  • The expo and global meet focuses on the latest technological advancements in the defence, transport, and energy sectors, materials and engineering, with emphasis on new materials and process developments, theories, and computational models.
  • Materials, Engineering & Technologies is the most comprehensive business platform across the manufacturing chain value for the defence, transport and energy sectors. The MET showcases the latest and key developments in these sectors to the global audience against the backdrop of India’s engineering R&D market which is expected to be worth $42 billion by end 2022.
  • The global meet is focussed on the latest technological advancements in the defence, transport and energy sectors. About 350 exhibitors and over 600 delegates from countries like the US, the UK, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, South Africa and other nations are participating in it.

CRPF Appoints 2 Women Cadre Officers As IG of RAF, Bihar sector            

  • In a first, the CRPF has appointed two women officers from its cadre as IG of its specialised anti-riots unit RAF and the Bihar Sector. The proverbial glass ceiling in the country’s largest paramilitary force with 3.25 lakh personnel has broken after a long wait of 35 years as the first women officers joined the Central Reserve Police Force in 1987.
  • There have been women IPS officers heading CRPF formations and at present there are at least three such officers in the force. This is the first time that the RAF will be headed by a woman IG. An IG Is the head of the sector in the CRPF.
  • Both officers joined the paramilitary force in 1987 as the first batch of women officers. They have also commanded an all-women Indian police contingent at the UN.
  • They have been decorated with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the ‘Ati Utkrisht Sewa Padak’ during their service, a CRPF spokesperson said.
  • Abraham told PTI that the appointment “was an honour for her and she would work to take RAF to a higher position.” The 15 battalions strength RAF is deployed for anti-riots, counter-protests and sensitive law and order duties in various parts of the country and is called in to assist state police forces during important events where heavy crowds are expected and also for VIP visits.
  • The Bihar Sector of the CRPF commands about four battalions of the force that are deployed for anti-Naxal operations and other law and order duties apart from some small units of the RAF and the jungle warfare unit CoBRA.
  • The CRPF was the first Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) to induct women in combat in 1986.

French Navy Frigate Pays Goodwill Visit to Mumbai, Conducts Drill with Indian Warship               

  • French Navy Ship Aconit, a La Fayette Class frigate, was on a goodwill visit to Mumbai from October 28 to November 2, and it participated in a military drill with an Indian warship, the defence ministry said on Wednesday.
  • The ship is under the command of Cdr Jean-Bertrand Guyon and is one of the five La Fayette Class frigates of the French Navy. The frigate had earlier visited Visakhapatnam in 2015. Its Commanding Officer, Cdr Guyon, called on Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Chief of Staff, WNC, and interacted with him over issues of mutual interest.
  • “The current visit of FNS Aconit to Mumbai is a reflection of the growing cooperation between the two navies and their enhanced interoperability. With peace and stability in the region being of common interest, the two navies are committed to working together towards that goal,” the ministry said.
  • French frigate Chevalier Paul was also in Mumbai in November last year.

Air Corridor B/W Afghanistan & India Reopens 

  • Officials for the ministry of commerce and industry of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has informed of reopening of air corridor between Afghanistan and India. According to officials of the ministry of commerce and industry, a trade agreement has been signed between Afghanistan and India.
  • Based on the agreement, from now on, Afghan traders can continue their trade with India via the air corridor. Jawad said that last year, 30,000 tons of cotton, handicrafts and other items were exported from Afghanistan to India, adding that it was good for Afghanistan to have trade agreements with India.
  • India-Afghanistan Friendship Salma Dam and the completion of Chabahar Port for the traders of the two countries show the New Delhi’s determination for the reconstruction and economic development of Afghanistan.
  • Construction of Zaranj-Delaram road, some electricity substations, fruit and vegetable cold stores and some other projects are examples of India’s assistance to Afghanistan in the past 20 years. In the current situation of humanitarian aid, India has provided Afghanistan with 20,000 tons of wheat and medicines.

Exercise Bison 2022

  • Amphibious troops of Indian Army carried out joint training with Australian Defence Forces Contingent during Exercise Bison at Vishakapatnam in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations.
