Drone, Explosive Attacks Target US Forces Across Iraq
- U.S. forces were targeted in three attacks in Iraq on Thursday but suffered no casualties, a U.S. military official and security sources said, in the most widespread single day of strikes on U.S. assets since the Israel-Hamas conflict started.
- There had been four attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria in the past 24 hours, a separate U.S. official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. Three U.S. troops had minor injuries and they had returned to duty, the official added.
- U.S. and coalition troops have been attacked at least 40 times in Iraq and Syria since early October over Israel’s devastating siege of Gaza in retaliation for Hamas militants’ Oct. 7 cross-border attack.
BSF Soldier Killed In Firing By Pakistan Rangers
- A BSF head constable was killed in the firing by Pakistan Rangers in the wee hours of Thursday along the border in Ramgarh sector of Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
- The BSF personnel killed along the border was identified as Lal Fam Kima, 50, who suffered injuries and later succumbed at the hospital. Kima is a resident of Aizwal in Mizoram and is survived by wife and three children.
- Ramgarh Community Health Centre Block Medical Officer (BMO) Dr Lakhwinder Singh one BSF jawan was injured in Pakistani firing and reported to the centre for treatment around 1am, reported PTI.
- He was later moved to the GMC Hospital in Jammu but succumbed to injuries during the course of treatment.
- The unprovoked firing by Pakistani Rangers triggered panic among villagers in the Ramgarh area, who took refuge in bunkers.
- This is the third ceasefire violation in 24 days by the Pakistani Rangers along the IB on the Jammu frontier and sixth overall violation since the two sides signed a ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021.
India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue
- The United States and India have established a strong defence industrial cooperation that looks at opportunities for co-development and co-production of important military capabilities for both countries, as per a US State Department fact sheet released.
- Earlier in 2023, the US approved a pathbreaking manufacturing licence for the co-production of GE F414 engines in India. The United States and India launched an educational series that prepares startups and young innovators to contribute to the defence industries in both countries.
- The United States and India also cooperate through the bilateral US-India Counterterrorism Joint Working Group and the Defence Policy Group, as per the fact sheet.
- The two countries have a common vision to deploy clean energy at scale, as reflected in both countries’ ambitious 2030 targets for climate action and clean energy.
India All-set To Buy 31 MQ-9B Predator Drones
- Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar on November 08 confirmed that India will soon buy the efficient 31 MQ-9B Predator Drones for the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force in order to advance India’s surveillance capability.
- “The Predator MQ-9B drone is used for surveillance…This is a very useful asset…The govt has given its approval to buy it now. There is a plan to buy 31 Predator Drones,” said the Naval Chief.
- The MQ-9Bs, which will be assembled in India, will enhance the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities of India’s armed forces across domains.
- As part of this plan, General Atomics will also establish a Comprehensive Global Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in India in support of India’s long-term goals to boost indigenous defence capabilities.
- The MQ-9B has two variants — the Sky Guardian and the Sea Guardian, its maritime variant. The MQ-9B is designed to fly over the horizon via satellite for up to 40 hours, depending on configuration, in all types of weather and safely integrate into civil airspace.
UK To Add India To List Of Safe States
- The UK government has announced that it will add India to a list of “safe states”, which would speed up the process of returning people who have travelled from India illegally.
- With this addition, all asylum claims from Indian nationals who arrive on small boats or illegally on other routes will be deemed inadmissible. There will be no appeals and they will be sent back.
- In a statement, the UK Home Office said that the government will add India and Georgia to the list of ‘safe states.’ It noted that the decision will mark another step in the delivery of the “Illegal Migration Act 2023” and its plans to stop the boats.
