US Announces Fresh Aid Package of USD 100 Million For Ukraine

  • The United States on Monday announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth USD 100 million. It comes at a time when the US Secretary of Defence is on a visit to Kyiv, according to The Hill.
  • Javelin and AT-4 launchers, small arms ammo, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, and 155 millimeter artillery munitions are all included in the package.
  • US Defence Secretary, Lloyd Austin stated that the package will provide Ukrainian troops with the necessary tools to fight successfully throughout the winter months.
  • “I think what’s important is that the military constructs its operations to focus on the objectives and the goals that the president wants to achieve,” Austin said, referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
  • It has been difficult for the Republican-controlled House to approve any package related to Ukraine, though, as more conservative members have voiced doubts about their continued support, according to The Hill.

Japan “Directly Approaching” Houthi Rebels Who Hijacked Cargo Ship In Red Sea

  • Japan has said that it is “directly approaching” Houthi rebels, who recently hijacked an international cargo shop in the Red Sea. Tokyo announced on Monday that it is “communicating with Israel” in addition to other countries in an effort to get the Galaxy Leader released.
  • The ship is notably owned by an Israeli businessman and is run by a Japanese company. The previous day, as the ship was travelling from Turkey to India, it was attacked by a group of rebels from Yemen.
  • The Japanese government has “strongly condemned” this action. Tokyo has asked other nations that are concerned–Iran, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and others–to take part in efforts to get the rebels to promptly release the ship and the captives.

Rajnath Singh, Australian Dy PM Marles Reaffirm Commitment To Further Strengthen Defence Ties 

  • Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a bilateral meeting with Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral defence relations.
  • Rajnath Singh and Richard Marles expressed satisfaction at the increasing military-to-military cooperation between the two nations, including joint exercises, exchanges and institutional dialogue.
  • Singh congratulated Minister Marles on the maiden and successful conduct of the multilateral exercise ‘Malabar’ by Australia in August this year.
  • Singh suggested that shipbuilding, ship repair and maintenance and aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) could be potential areas of collaboration.

IAF Dispatches 2 Rafale Jets To Investigate UFO Sighting Near Imphal Airport

  • The IAF soon after receiving information about the sighting of unidentified flying objects near the Imphal airport, dispatched its Rafale fighter aircraft to search for them. The sighting of the UFO over the Imphal airport happened around 2:30 pm.
  • “The aircraft equipped with advanced sensors carried out low-level flying over the suspected area to look for the UFO, but it did not find anything there,” they said, adding that after the first aircraft returned, one more Rafale fighter was sent for the search, but the UFO was not seen around the area”, the IAF.
  • “The agencies concerned are trying to find out the details of the UFO as there are videos of the UFO over the Imphal airport,” the statement added.

All 9 Aboard US Navy Plane That Overshot Runway Escape Injury 

  • The Honolulu Emergency Medical Services Department was called to respond to a downed military aircraft in Kaneohe Bay on Monday, but when they got to the scene, military officials told the emergency workers that all nine people on board made it safely to shore and there were no injuries, spokesperson Shayne Enright said.
  • Coast Guard spokesperson Petty Officer Ryan Fisher said the Coast Guard responded but that rescue operations were quickly called off.
  • “It sounds like all parties involved were rescued,” he said.
  • The P-8A aircraft overshot the runway at a Marine base on Kaneohe Bay, said U.S. Marine Corps spokesperson Gunnery Sgt. Orlando Perez. He did not have further information.
  • The P-8A is often used to hunt for submarines and used in reconnaissance and intelligence gathering. It is manufactured by Boeing and shares many parts with the 737 commercial jet.
  • The base is about 10 miles (16 kilometers) from Honolulu on Oahu.
