Airborne forces are ground forces that are transported by aircraft and dropped into hostile or conflict zones, typically via parachute. These soldiers are known as paratroopers. A paratrooper is a soldier who is qualified to use a parachute.
Indian Army consists of various training establishments that impart airborne training, such as PTS (Paratrooper Training School), Army Airborne Training School (ATTS), Special Forces Training School, etc.
About Para Training School (PTS)
PTS (Paratroopers Training School) is an Indian Army training school located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. PTS was founded in 1948 in Agra. Soldiers who finish their basic para jump training at this school are given a para-wing.
The 50th Indian Parachute Brigade was formed in Delhi in October 1941. At the same time, the predecessor to PTS, the Air Landing School, was established at Willingdon Airport in New Delhi. The first Indians to be trained and the jump was Lt AG Rangaraj, IMS, and Havaldar Major Mathura Singh of the 152 (Indian) Parachute Battalion.
The Air Landing School was renamed No 3 PTS, AF and relocated to Chaklala in what is now Pakistan in 1942. Dakota, Valencia Hudson Wellington, and Halifax aircraft were used to transport paratroopers in 1944.
The Indian element of PJIs, led by Sqn Ldr TS Gopalan, relocated to Agra, resulting in the establishment of the current school facility.
Now let us learn how to join the Para Training School (PTS)
First of all, we should know that there are no special provisions to join the PTS directly. You can go for training in the PTS once you are already in the Indian Army as an Officer or Jawan. A soldier or an officer who wants to seek admission to the Para Training School (PTS) will have to apply for the same after permission from the respective Commanding Officer of the unit. Then he or she will have to complete the PARA BASIC COURSE from PTS.
