The Indian Army announced on Thursday that it will operationalize command cyber operations and support wings as part of a broader strategy to integrate specialist technology and upgrade its internet networks. The decision to establish separate cyber operations wings was made during the Army Commanders Conference, which was held from April 17 to 21.

Insights from Army Commanders Conference 2023

With the Army’s rapid transition to net centricity, which entails a greater reliance on modern communication systems, commanders reviewed the need to safeguard networks and decided to operationalize Command Cyber Operations and Support Wings (CCOSW) in the near future, according to the Army.

The Indian Army is receiving a huge quantity of specialty technology-enabled equipment such as swarm drones, loitering weapon systems, and ant-drone equipment. India’s opponents’ increased cyber warfare capabilities have rendered the cyber realm more competitive and contested than ever before. “It was decided to nominate lead directorates and ‘Test Bed’ formations to evolving optimal employment philosophies in order to augment the capabilities of the forces through absorption of niche technologies and equipment,” the Army said in a statement. The commanders also took stock of evolving security scenarios and examined the Indian Army’s operational capability and readiness, according to the statement.

A five-year TES model is now being used for officers’ admission into the Indian Army as B Tech graduates. The Officers Instruction Academy (OTA), Gaya, provides one year of military instruction using this concept. Following that, a three-year B.Tech degree is awarded at the Cadet Training Wings (CTWs), followed by a year at one of the Indian Army’s three engineering institutes. It has now been agreed to have a four-year term, with three years of technical instruction at Cadet Instruction Wings (CTWs) and one year of basic military training at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.
