The fourth edition of the joint military exercise ‘DUSTLIK’ between the Indian Army and the Army of Uzbekistan has begun on 20th Feb in Pithoragarh’s Foreign Training Node (Uttarakhand). This exercise involves 45 soldiers from Uzbekistan and the Indian Army, with the goal of improving relations between the two armies. The Indian Army contingent consists of troops from the Garhwal Rifles Infantry Battalion. The first edition of the exercise was held in November 2019 in Uzbekistan.

Exercise DUSTLIK 2023

The 14-day joint exercise will include field training exercises, combat discussions, lectures, demonstrations, and a validation exercise. It will focus on joint counter-terrorist operations in mountainous and semi-urban scenarios under a UN mandate. Both sides will train, plan, and execute a series of tactical drills to neutralize potential threats while learning to use new-generation equipment and technology for joint operations. The emphasis is on increasing interoperability among forces.

The camaraderie, esprit-de-corps, and goodwill generated during the exercise will go a long way towards further strengthening the bonds between both armies by allowing the understanding of each other’s an organizational structure and operational methodology.

Significance Of Ex DUSTLIK 2023

The joint military exercise will allow the two armies to share best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for conducting tactical operations under the UN mandate, as well as develop interoperability, friendship, and camaraderie between the two nations.

The joint exercise will allow the two armies to share best practices in tactical operations under UN-mandated tactics, techniques, and procedures. “The training will primarily focus on maintaining high levels of physical fitness and sharing tactical drills,” it added. During the exercise, participants will take part in a variety of missions, including joint planning, joint tactical drills, the fundamentals of establishing integrated surveillance grids, and the use of aerial assets.
