Women are flying fighter jets and helicopters often over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam in the eastern sector of the Indian Air Force, where the number of female pilots and ground staff is rising.
Team observed activities by female fighter aircraft crew members and helicopter pilots operating locally produced ALH Dhruv mark 3 choppers during a tour to a forward air base.
In order to serve the military and the local populace, female pilots and ground crew officers of the Indian Air Force are operating in every region of the nation, from the easternmost landing ground in Vijaynagar, Arunachal Pradesh, to the world’s highest battleground, the Siachen glacier sector.
We have had bright women who have shattered the glass ceiling and paved a road for us to follow our goals to serve the country, said Flight Lieutenant Tejaswi, India’s first Weapon System Operator of the Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft fleet in an interview with media.
“Having women in the fighter aircraft fleet is no longer a novel experience. Everyone works and trains just as hard, men and women included. We each have an equal voice. We are all air warriors first and foremost in the air and on the base, and everything else comes second, she continued.
When three females, including Avni Chaturvedi and Bhawna Kanth, were commissioned in the fighter stream, the Indian Air Force first permitted women in the fighter stream. Later, Kanth became the first person to fly a solo MiG-21 sortie, and Shivangi Singh went on to fly Rafale aircraft.
Pilots of ALH Dhruv Mark 3 Flight Lieutenants Ani Awasthi and A Nain frequently fly their ALH choppers close to the LAC and over dense jungle in the Arunachal Pradesh sector.
These pilots are doing a fantastic job, and for us in the IAF, they are first and foremost air warriors who must use the equipment skillfully to complete the missions given, according to an Eastern Command official.

More than 1300 female officers in the Indian Air Force perform ground and aerial operations. Given the government’s initiative to further advance “stree Shakti” inside the armed forces and the potential for the induction of female airmen via the Agniveer programme, the numbers are anticipated to increase even more.
