4 Ways To Join Indian Air Force in 2024

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces. Its complement of personnel and aircraft assets ranks fourth amongst the air forces of the world. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during armed conflict. It was officially established on 8 October 1932.

Following are some of the ways to get into the Indian Air Force in 2023:

1. Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT)

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is one of the sought-after examinations conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to select the eligible candidates into Flying Branch, Ground Duty (Technical) Branch, and Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch. The AFCAT exam is conducted twice a year by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The interested candidates who wish to join the Indian Air Force can apply online for the AFCAT exam.

Candidates must be 20 to 24 years and must have scored a minimum of 60% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level and Graduation with a minimum of three years degree course in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

As per the previous trends, the Indian Air Force will publish the official notification of AFCAT 1 2023 in the month of December 2022. The AFCAT 1 2023 registrations will start in Dec 2022. Online AFCAT 1 2023 examination will be conducted in the second week of Feb 2023.

2. NCC Special Entry

Aspirants with NCC C certificate can apply for this entry. With NCC Special entry you can only apply for the flying branch of the IAF. 10% seats out of CDSE vacancies for PC and 10% seats out of AFCAT vacancies for SSC. Men & women can join the Air Force through this mode of entry. Permanent Commission offered for men and Short Service Commission for men and women.

Candidates must be 20-24 years with minimum 60% marks in each in Maths & Physics at 10 + 2 level. Graduate (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent or BE/B Tech (Four Year Course) from a recognized University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.

3. Combine Defence Services (CDS) Examination

UPSC conducts the CDS exam biannually for recruitment of officer cadre in Indian Air Force. candidates can enter the Flying branch through the Air Force Academy where shortlisted candidates are trained as a Fighter pilot or a Helicopter pilot or a Transport pilot and are part of various peace and wartime missions.

Candidates must be between 20 to 24 years old with graduate (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level)/BE/B Tech (Four Year Course).

The notification for the Combined Defence Services Examination (I) 2023 will be released on 21st December 2022 according to the Union Public Service Commission calendar. The exam is a national-level examination for the recruitment of candidates into the Indian Military Academy, the Officers’ Training Academy, the Indian Naval Academy and the Indian Air Force Academy. The exam is conducted twice a year and can be attempted in Hindi or English. It is an offline, written examination. The CDS 1 2023 exam will be conducted on 16th April 2023.

4. National Defence Academy (NDA) Exam

National Defence Academy (NDA) is a national-level defence entrance exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year. The exam is conducted to recruit the candidates for the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) and National Defence Academy (NDA).

Candidates must have a 12th pass with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or appear in one, of a 10+2 pattern of school education from any state board or equivalent. The age requirement is 16 ½ to 19 ½ years.

According to the UPSC calendar, the NDA 1 2023 exam notification will be released on 21st December 2022. On successful passing, the entrance exam, clearing the SSB Interview, and the medical exam, candidates who complete their training at the National Defence Academy are recruited into the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The NDA 1 2023 exam will take place on the 16th of April, 2023.
