World Population Day

  • World Population Day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.
  • It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987, the approximate date on which the world’s population reached five billion people.
  • World Population Day aims to increase people’s awareness of various population issues such as the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights.

India Animal Health Summit 2022

  • Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying inaugurated the First India Animal Health Summit 2022 in New Delhi.
  • Its India’s first-ever Animal health Summit organized by the Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA) and the Agriculture Today Group.
  • Animal health is a critical component of One Health. One Health is an approach that recognizes that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment.
  • The concept of animal health covers animal diseases, as well as the interplay between animal welfare, human health, environment protection, and food safety.
  • Many known human infectious diseases start in animals, and climate change, for example, is having a significant impact on their transmission.

Fields Medals 2022

  • Ukrainian mathematician Maryna Viazovska along with other three mathematicians received the prestigious Fields Medals.
  • Fields medal is often described as the Nobel Prize in mathematics.
  • The Fields Medal is awarded every four years to one or more mathematicians under the age of 40.
  • Fields Medal is awarded at the International Congress of the International Mathematical Union (IMU).
  • Fields medal is awarded to recognize outstanding mathematical achievement for existing work and for the promise of future achievement.

Northern Zonal Council Meeting

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the 30th Meeting of the Northern Zonal Council (NZC) in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
  • Issues like maintaining the adequate water level in Bhakra and Pong dam, expediting investigation in rape cases, speedy disposal of cases under POCSO Act, optimum use of DBT in social security schemes, changing parameters of road construction in rural areas under PMGSY, curbing stubble burning, security, cybercrime, drug trade, the mutual border dispute between states, road, transport, industries, water, power, and other issues are being deliberated upon in the meeting.
  • The Northern Zonal Council comprises Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, UTs of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Delhi, and Chandigarh. The last meeting of NZC was held at Chandigarh in 2019.
  • The meeting is being held in Jaipur after 25 years. The regional councils work under cooperative federalism and provide a forum for discussion in a structured manner on issues affecting one or more states or issues between the Centre and the States.

Natural Farming Conclave

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a Natural Farming Conclave through video conferencing.
  • The conclave Was organized in Surat, Gujarat.
  • It witnessed the participation of thousands of farmers and other stakeholders who have made the adoption of Natural farming in Surat, a success story.
  • As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Mr. Modi in his address at Gujarat Panchayat Mahasammelan in March this year exhorted at least 75 farmers in each village to adopt the natural way of farming.
  • Guided by this vision, Surat District undertook a concerted and coordinated effort to sensitize and motivate different stakeholders and institutions like farmer groups, elected representatives, Cooperatives, and Banks to help farmers in the adoption of Natural Farming.
  • Consequently, at least 75 farmers were identified in each Gram Panchayat and were motivated and trained to undertake Natural Farming. The farmers were trained in 90 different clusters resulting in the training of more than 41 thousand farmers across the district.

National Conclave On Mines & Minerals

  • Home Minister Amit Shah will join the 6th National Conclave on Mines and Minerals as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ iconic week celebrations on 12th this month in New Delhi.
  • Ministry of Mines highlighted that the national level award Rashtriya Khanij Vikas Puraskar will be conferred to best performing states in the field of mining during the conclave.
  • It said, the launch of three modules of Mining Tenement System (MTS) along with awards for five-Star rated mines for the year 2020-21 and National GeoScience Awards-2019 will also be conferred on this occasion.
  • The Ministry stressed that the Chief Executive Officers of various mining companies will brainstorm on important issues pertaining to country’s mining sector during the round table discussions.
  • It said, this conclave aims to provide a platform for interaction among different stakeholders including Central and State Government officers and the industry associations.

NMA Recommends Two Sites For Monuments Of National Importance

  • National Monuments Authority has recommended two sites associated with architect of the Indian Constitution Babasaheb Ambedkar to be declared as Monuments of National importance.
  • Culture Ministry said, Sankalp Bhumi Banyan tree campus in Vadodara, where Dr. Ambedkar had taken a resolve to eradicate untouchability on 23th September, 1917 be declared as Monument of National Importance.
  • This place is more than hundred years old and a witness to the beginning of social respect revolution heralded by Dr. Ambedkar.
  • The National Monuments Authority has also recommended a place in Satara in Maharashtra where Dr Ambedkar received his primary education in Pratap Rao Bhosle High School to be declared as monument of National importance. The school register still shows with pride a child student Bhim Rao’s signature in Marathi.
