First I2U2 (India-Israel-UAE-USA) Leaders’ Summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the First I2U2 (India-Israel-UAE-USA) Leaders’ Virtual Summit on Thursday along with Prime Minister of Israel Yair Lapid, President of the UAE Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and President of the USA Joseph R. Biden.
  • The Leaders will discuss the possible joint projects within the framework of I2U2 as well as the other common areas of mutual interest to strengthen the economic partnership in trade and investment in the respective regions and beyond. These projects can serve as a model for economic cooperation and offer opportunities for businesspersons and workers.
  • The I2U2 Grouping was conceptualized during the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the four countries held on 18th October last year. Each country also has Sherpa-level interactions regularly to discuss the possible areas of cooperation.
  • I2U2 is aimed to encourage joint investments in six mutually identified areas such as water, energy, transportation, space, health, and food security. It intends to mobilize private sector capital and expertise to help modernize the infrastructure, and low carbon development pathways for the industries, improve public health, and promote the development of critical emerging and green technologies.

Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign

  • The Central government will soon launch a nationwide campaign Har Ghar Tiranga to inspire countrymen to hoist the national flag at their homes to mark the 75th Independence Day. The initiative has been taken under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, for which the Ministry of Culture is the nodal ministry. The Indian National Flag is a symbol of national pride for the entire nation and to further honor the national flag, Union Home Minister Amit Shah who oversees all efforts under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav has approved the program of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’.
  • It envisages encouraging  Indians everywhere to hoist the national flag. Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in the 75th year of Independence is not only an act of personal connection with the Tricolour but also an embodiment of our commitment to nation-building. The idea behind the initiative is to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of people and promote awareness about our national flag.
  • The use, display, and hoisting of the Indian National Flag is guided by the Flag Code of India, 2002. The Flag Code brings together all laws, conventions, practices, and instructions for the display of the National Flag and governs the display of the National Flag by Private, Public, and Government Institutions. The Flag Code of India took effect on 26th January 2002.

Around 60 Startup Registered With ISRO

  • Around 60 StartUps have registered with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), since the unlocking of the Indian Space sector recently by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and quite a few of them are dealing with projects related to Space debris management.
  • This was informed by the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh while speaking after inaugurating the ISRO System for Safe and Sustainable Operation at ISRO Control Center in Bengaluru.
  • The Minister reiterated that the passion of private players and innovative Startups will augment the role of the Department of Space in protecting India’s interests in Space by developing all-around capabilities in the domains of space transportation, debris management, infrastructure, and applications. Dr. Jitendra Singh said, ISRO has been taking necessary measures to safeguard all its Space assets from intentional and accidental close approaches by space objects including operational spacecraft and space debris objects.

New Logo Of Prasar Bharati

  • Information and Broadcasting Secretary Apurva Chandra unveiled the new logo of the country’s Public Service Broadcaster, Prasar Bharati.
  • The New Logo, Map Of India Signify The Service Of Trust, Security And Perfection To The Nation. Its Dark Moderate Blue Colour Represents Both Sky And Sea Which Is Associated With Open Space, Freedom, Intuition, Imagination, Inspiration, And Sensitivity. Blue Also Represents Meanings Of Depth, Trust, Loyalty, Sincerity, Wisdom, Confidence, Stability, Faith, And Intelligence.
  • The Blue Colour Also Pays Tribute To The Indian Ethos And Traditions Associated With Religious Figures, Mythological Characters Found In The Indian Miniature Paintings.

Netherlands Apologies To Survivors Of Srebrenica Genocide

  • The Netherlands offered its apologies for the role played by Dutch peacekeepers in the Srebrenica genocide. For the first time since the 1995 massacre, Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren apologized to survivors for the Dutch peacekeepers’ failure to prevent the killings.
  • During a ceremony in Potocari, Ollongren said, the international community failed to offer adequate protection to the people of Srebrenica. The Dutch government shares responsibility for the situation in which that failure occurred. And for this, we offer our deepest apologies.
  • The Srebrenica killings came at the tail end of the Balkan wars of the 1990s.
  • Bosnian Serb forces overran the Dutch UN protection zone at Srebrenica and massacred 8,000 Muslim men and boys.
  • The slaughter, judged an act of genocide by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, was the worst single atrocity of the war, in which about 100,000 people died.

Image Captured By James Webb Space Telescope

  • The first full-color image from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope was released yesterday.
  • It provides glimpses of what the early Universe looked like.
  • US President Joe Biden presented the image at an event at the White House.
  • The clearest image to date of the early universe, going back 13 billion years, has been released and it was stunning.
  • The image showed thousands of galaxies and some of the faintest objects observed, colorized in blue, orange, and white tones.
  • The image, captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, the most powerful to be placed in orbit, covers a patch of the sky roughly the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length by someone standing on earth. 
  • Releasing the image, an excited US President Joe Biden said, that today is a historic day, a historic moment, for America and all of humanity. An Awed US Vice President Kamala Harris said this is a very exciting moment for all of us and today is an exciting new chapter for the universe.
  • The James Webb Space Telescope is the next great space science observatory following Hubble, designed to answer outstanding questions about the Universe and make breakthrough discoveries in all fields of astronomy.
  • The joint project between the American space agency NASA, and the European and Canadian space agencies (ESA, CSA) launched in December 2021.

Arjun Babuta Wins Gold Medal At ISSF World Cup

  • In Shooting, India’s Arjun Babuta Won His First Gold Medal At The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Stage At Changwon In South Korea.
  • He Defeated Tokyo 2020 Silver Medallist Lucas Kozeniesky Of The USA 17-9 In The Final.
  • This Was India’s First Medal Under New National Foreign Rifle Coach Thomas Farnik.

World Masters Athletics Championships

  • In Athletics, Bhagwani Devi, a 94-year-old sprinter from India, won the gold medal in the 100 m sprint at the World Masters Athletics Championships held in Tampere, Finland. She won the gold with a timing of 24.74 seconds.
  • Bhagwani also bagged a bronze medal in shot put. World Masters Athletics Championships were held in Tampere from June 29 – July 10.
  • It is a world championship-caliber event for the sport of athletics for male and female athletes aged 35 years and over.
