Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Remembered On His Jayanthi

  • Syama Prasad Mukherjee (6 July 1901 – 23 June 1953) was an Indian politician, barrister, and academician, who served as the Minister for Industry and Supply in Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet. After falling out with Nehru, protesting against the Liaquat-Nehru Pact, Mukherjee resigned from Nehru’s cabinet.
  • With the help of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, he founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor to the Bharatiya Janata Party, in 1951.
  • He was also the president of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha from 1943 to 1946.
  • He died in the custody of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in 1953.

Swami Vivekananda Remembered On His Punya Tithi

  • Swami Vivekananda (12 January 1863 – 4 July 1902) was an Indian Hindu monk, philosopher and author. He was a chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Ramakrishna.
  • Influenced by Western esotericism, he was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian darsanas (teachings, practices) of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world, and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century.
  • He was a major force in the contemporary Hindu reform movements in India and contributed to the concept of nationalism in colonial India.
  • Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission.
  • He is perhaps best known for his speech which began with the words “Sisters and brothers of America …,“ in which he introduced Hinduism at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893.

Sweden And Finland Sign Accession Protocols With NATO

  • Sweden and Finland signed the Accession Protocols at the NATO Headquarters yesterday. The signing was held in the presence of Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde.
  • The signing of the accession protocols marks the start of the ratification process.
  • In a statement, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg termed the signing historic.
  • The 30-member NATO group seeks to promote collective security among its members. The collective defense principle laid out in the NATO charter states that an armed attack against any of its members is considered an attack against them all.
  • NATO membership is open to any European state in a position to further the principles of the Treaty and to contribute to the security of the North Atlantic area.
  • The development is significant coming in the backdrop of the Ukraine conflict. Russia opposes the eastward expansion of NATO and Finland is Russia’s neighbor.
  • Mr. Stoltenberg said that NATO’s door remains open to European as they face what he termed, the biggest security crisis in decades.

PMBJAP Resulted In Huge Savings

  • Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya today said that Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana has resulted in huge savings for citizens on medical expenses.
  • In a tweet, Dr Mandaviya said, low-cost and quality medicines available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras has brought down the expenses of common man.
  • He said, the savings of citizens on medical expenses has risen from 2,500 crore rupees in 2019-20 to 5,360 crores in 2021-22.

Make In India: Toy Export Up By 61 Percent

  • The government has said that toy import has decreased by 70 percent, while exports have gone up by 61 percent in the last three years as Make in India yields positive results for the sector.
  • Anil Agrawal, Additional Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade said that government interventions have helped in the Toy Sector after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call in his “Mann ki Baat ” edition in August 2020.
  • Mr. Agrawal highlighted that Mr. Modi had given a clarion call on ‘Rebranding the Indian Toy Story’ and emphasized the availability of the right kind of toys for children as a learning resource, designing of toys based on an Indian value system.
  • He stressed that Toy BIZ has attracted 96 exhibitors with ‘Made In India’ products manufactured domestically by small, medium, and large enterprises.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Award In Public Administration

  • Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has announced setting up of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Award in public administration in the field of academic excellence in memory of the first President of India.
  • Dr. Singh chaired meeting of Executive Council of Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) in New Delhi.
  • He said, the institute must have a futuristic vision for the next 25 years to attain the goals set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • He said, IIPA has the capacity, and it needs to continue performing by having an enlarged pool of experts and a wide spectrum of activities.

State Ranking Index For National Food Security Act

  • Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal said that the system of digitized, Aadhaar linked Public Distribution will be used to issue Ayushman Bharat Card.
  • He said, health and food are naturally connected and nutritional security will get a fillip with health security.
  • The Minister released the first edition of ‘The State Ranking Index for National Food Security Act.
  • While addressing the National Conference on Food and Nutrition Security in New Delhi, he said, India is now 100 percent connected under One Nation One Ration Card.
  • He said, 45 crore transactions have already happened under this unique initiative which provided the beneficiaries, freedom to collect ration from any State and Union Territory in the country.
  • He said, this is the first time that sates have been ranked for food distribution under National Food Security Act.
  • In the ranking, Odisha is placed at top rank followed by Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Goyal urged the states to increase the sowing of rice and wheat which will help in increasing exports.
