DRDO Mounted Gun System to boost Indian Army’s Firepower
- DRDO has developed a new, powerful howitzer, the Indigenous 155mm/52 Calibre Mounted Gun System, which can quickly shoot and move.
- The DRDO lab, Vehicle Research and Development Establishment, has developed the MGS. The goal was to develop a fully indigenous system that could operate effectively in challenging terrain and engage enemy targets quickly and accurately.
- The DRDO has transferred the MGS technology to Bharat Forge Limited for production, and the Army is projected to require 700–800 such guns to enhance artillery mobility and firepower.
- Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) is a laboratory of the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) located at Vahannagar near Ahmednagar. Its primary function is research and development of various light tracked, wheeled and specialised vehicles for defence applications.
British F-35B Jet Under Repair in Kerala
- The repair work of the British Royal Navy’s F-35B fighter jet has started after it was brought into a hangar at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, nearly three weeks after it made an emergency landing due to bad weather during a sortie over the Indian Ocean, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed.
- “UPDATE: A team of UK engineers has arrived in India to commence repairs on the UK F-35 B aircraft. Repairs are underway on the aircraft, which has now been moved to the maintenance hangar. We are grateful for the continued support and collaboration of the Indian authorities,” the UK MoD said.
- The fifth-generation jet, operated by the British Navy, had landed in Thiruvananthapuram after being unable to return to the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, which was operating in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The aircraft encountered bad weather while on a routine sortie outside Indian airspace and made an emergency landing.
- The team arrived in Thiruvananthapuram aboard a British RAF Airbus A400M Atlas military aircraft with specialised equipment. The Lightning 2 jet was then moved to the Air India Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hangar on Sunday.

- India abstained from voting on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution on the situation in Afghanistan on Monday and noted that a “business as usual” approach without new and targeted initiatives is unlikely to deliver the outcomes the international community envisions for the Afghan people.
- The text titled “The situation in Afghanistan” was adopted by a vote of 116 in favour to 2 against (Israel, United States), with 12 abstentions.
- “India’s commitment to Afghanistan’s reconstruction is demonstrated through more than 500 development partnership projects across all provinces,” he said.
Indian Army Chief commends Major Bachwala
- Indian Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi has commended Major Rohit Bachwala for demonstrating exceptional professional acumen and selfless commitment beyond the call of duty. Army Medical Officer, Major Bachwala, had helped a woman in advanced labour deliver a baby at Jhansi Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh.
- On July 5 2025, while proceeding on leave from Military Hospital, Jhansi, to his hometown, Hyderabad, Major Rohit Bachwala was involved in a critical medical intervention that exemplified the highest standards of military service.
- At Jhansi Railway Station, he noticed a woman in visible distress near the lift area. She had fallen from a wheelchair and was in advanced labour. Major Rohit’s swift and decisive action, under non-clinical and resource-constrained circumstances, is a testament to his medical proficiency, composure under pressure, and unwavering commitment to the ethos of the Armed Forces, the Indian Army said.
