Cabinet Approves Interest Subvention On Agri Loan

  • Cabinet has approved an interest subvention of 1.5 percent on Short Term Agriculture Loan upto three lakh rupees.
  • The decision has been taken to ensure adequate credit flow in agriculture sector.
  • The interest subvention of 1.5 percent will be provided to lending institutions by the government. A total of 34 thousand 856 crore rupees will be provided to lending institutions by the government.
  • Government also approved enhancement of limit of Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme by 50 thousand crore rupees for Travel, Tourism and Hospitality sector.

Delhi HC Orders For Indian Olympic Association

  • Delhi High Court has directed the setting up of a three-member Committee of Administrators (CoA) to take over the affairs of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). A bench of Justices Manmohan and Najmi Waziri said the persistent recalcitrance of the IOA to comply with the Sports Code made it imperative that its affairs be put in the hands of the COA comprising former Supreme Court judge Justice Anil R. Dave, former Chief Election Commissioner Dr SY Quraishi, and former Secretary of Ministry of External Affairs Vikas Swarup.
  • The court directed the executive committee of IOA to forthwith hand over the charge to the newly appointed committee. The apex court said that the members of the CoA will be assisted by three eminent sportspersons, namely, Shooter Olympian Abhinav Bindra, Long Jump Olympian Anju Bobby George, and Archer Olympian Bombayla Devi Laishram. The IOA is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the National Olympic Committee for India.
  • The court struck down the post of Life President and any such permanent post for an individual in the IOA for being illegal. It said that the maximum term for the President and likewise to all Office Bearers and members of the EC has to be limited to 3 tenures as per the law.

9th India-Thailand Joint Commission Meeting

  • Both the countries are celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations.
  • Dr. Jaishankar began his Thailand visit by meeting the Indian community. He shared with them the achievements and aspirations of New India and welcomed their enthusiasm to contribute to India’s progress. He also thanked the India-Thai Chamber of Commerce (ITCC) for organizing the event. 
  • Addressing the Indian community in Bangkok, Dr. Jaishankar discussed the surge in energy prices across the world due to the Russia-Ukraine war and defended India’s crude oil imports from Russia by terming it the best deal for the country.
  • Both sides noted that India and Thailand are close maritime neighbors having historical and cultural linkages.
  • In the contemporary context, India’s ‘Act East’ policy is complemented by Thailand’s ‘Look West’ policy.
  • Thailand is the Chairman of ASEAN for 2019 and the country Coordinator for India-ASEAN Strategic Partnership for 2018-21.

‘Swaraj: Bharat Ke Swatantrata Sangram Ki Samagra Gatha’

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a special screening of the Doordarshan-produced serial-‘Swaraj: Bharat Ke Swatantrata Sangram ki Samagra Gatha’.
  • Swaraj is a 75-episode serial presenting the glorious history of the freedom struggle and lesser-known tales about Indian history. 
  • It is being telecast every Sunday from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Doordarshan National since August the 14th. The program is being dubbed in nine regional languages — Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Oriya, Bengali and Assamese along with English. The regional language versions will be broadcast on Doordarshan’s regional channels from the 20th of  August.
  • Starting from the landing of Vasco-Da-Gama in 1498, the serial presents a rich saga of the heroes of this land. These include many unsung heroes of the likes of Rani Abbakka, Bakshi Jagabandhu, Tirot Sing, Sidhu Murmu and Kanhu Murmu, Shivappa Nayaka, Kanhoji Angre, Rani Gaidinliu and Tilka Majhi along with famous freedom fighters, such as Rani Lakshmibai, Maharaj Shivaji, Tatya Tope and Madam Bhikaji Kama among others.

Revamped National Panchayat Awards

  • Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Kapil Moreshwar Patil inaugurated the three-day National workshop on Preparedness of Roadmap for Revamped National Panchayat Awards in New Delhi.
  • There will be fifteen technical sessions during the workshop. In his address, Mr. Patil stressed that all-around development and transformation of villages is not possible without the support of States.
  • He emphasized that there is a need to work collectively in the right earnest to continuously encourage and incentivize the Panchayats in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in rural areas within a definite time frame.
  • The Minister said, there should be healthy competition among the Panchayats on the parameters of overall development. He expressed that Gram Panchayats should also extend help to each other so that every Gram Panchayat moves ahead together on the path of progress and prosperity.

NHA Announces Performance-Based Fund Allocation

  • National Health Authority(NHA) has announced performance based fund allocation to States and Union Territories for strengthening the registries of healthcare professionals and health facilities.
  • This performance-based fund allocation will help in structured implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
  • CEO of National Health Authority Dr RS Sharma said, the benefits of digital health services can be further extended to masses with the enthusiastic support from the States and UTs in registering more healthcare professionals and health facilities.
  • He said, States and UTs support will help in building national level registries of healthcare professionals and health facilities. 500 crore rupees had been demarcated for setting up of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission’s offices at State and UTs by the financial year 2025-26.

India Contributes To Voluntary Trust Funds For UNHR

  • India has contributed four lakh US dollars to four Voluntary Trust Funds as part of its commitment to global promotion and protection of human rights and support for United Nations Human Rights.
  • India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Geneva in a tweet said that the contribution reflects India’s commitment in this regard.
  • The four Trust Funds to which contribution has been made include the Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture, the Voluntary Fund for Technical Cooperation, the Voluntary Fund for financial and technical assistance for the implementation of Universal Periodic Review, and the Voluntary Technical Assistance Trust Fund to support the participation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDs) in the work of the council.
