International Day Of Clean Air For Blue Skies
- The International Day of Clean Air for blue skies is designated by the United Nations General Assembly on 7 September to strengthen international cooperation in improving air quality and reducing air pollution.
- The designation was made through Assembly resolution and adopted at that session’s 52nd plenary meeting on 19 December 2019.
- The resolution was adopted without a vote, generally indicating all countries recognized the importance of the subject, were united on the issue, and no obvious divisions were present.
- In that resolution, the General Assembly emphasized “the need to strengthen international cooperation at the global, regional and subregional levels in various areas related to improving air quality, including the collection and utilization of data, joint research and development, and the sharing of best practices.”
- It includes a specific focus on the disproportionate effect of poor air quality on women, children, and older persons.

PM-SHRI Scheme
- On the occasion of Teacher’s Day today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a new initiative – the development and upgradation of 14 thousand 500 schools across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Schools For Rising India (PM-SHRI) Yojana. In a series of tweets, Mr Modi said, these PM-SHRI schools will become model schools which will encapsulate the full spirit of National Education Policy.
- The PM-SHRI schools will have a modern, transformational and holistic method of imparting education. Mr Modi said that he is certain that the PM-SHRI schools will further benefit lakhs of students across the country in the spirit of National Education Policy.
- He said, emphasis will be given on a discovery oriented, learning centric way of teaching. Prime Minister said, the focus will also be on modern infrastructure including latest technology, smart classrooms, sports and more. He said, the National Education Policy has transformed the education sector in the recent years.
NITI – BMZ Dialogue
- NITI Aayog and German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) yesterday held the inaugural NITI-BMZ Dialogue of Development Cooperation through video conferencing.
- The dialogue laid down a pathway to strengthen mutual cooperation between the two countries, particularly to reconcile the imperatives of dealing with climate change with the goals of Agenda 2030.
- It was focused on five core areas of cooperation – Sustainable Development Goals, climate action, energy transition, emerging technologies and agro-ecology. During the discussion, both sides highlighted the need to deepen engagement scaling up natural farming in India.
- NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery said, Indo-German partnership is as an example of success in a complex world. Mr Bery said, the NITI-BMZ Dialogue will help the two nations realise their potential in embedding climate action in the Sustainable Development Goals.
NALSA’s Centre For Citizen Services
- Chief Justice of India, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit inaugurated NALSA’s Centre for Citizen Services at Jaisalmer house in New Delhi.
- It will provide free Legal Services to the weaker sections of society. On the occasion, Justice Lalit congratulated the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Service Authority, (NALSA), Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, and functionaries of the legal services authorities for taking a leap forward in catering to the needs of free legal aid beneficiaries which is in line with the futuristic vision of 2047.
- He stated that it is a historic moment for NALSA by establishing a dedicated center for citizen services in the dispensation of efficacious legal aid in the country.
- Dr. Justice Chandrachud enunciated that the Centre for Citizen Services, as the name itself, suggests would prove to be an excellent medium for providing effective legal services to the common man without any hassles.
Task For Drafting Of National Cooperation Policy
- Centre has announced the constitution of a national level committee for drafting of the national cooperation policy. The committee under the Chairmanship of former Union Minister, Suresh Prabhu consists of 47 members from all parts of the country.
- It comprises experts of the cooperative sector, representatives of national, State and district Cooperative Societies, secretaries Cooperation and registrars of Cooperative Societies of States and UTs.
- The new policy is being formulated to realize the vision of Sahakar Se Samriddhi under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- Recently, Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Amit Shah had announced that a national Cooperation policy will soon be prepared which will have a holistic approach from Primary Agricultural Credit Society upwards.
- The new policy document is being formulated with a view to fulfilling the mandate given to the new Ministry of Cooperation, which includes realizing the vision of Sahakar se Samriddhi, strengthening cooperative movement in the country and deepening its reach up to the grassroots. It also includes promoting cooperative-based economic development models, creating an appropriate policy, legal and institutional framework to help cooperatives realise their potential.
Shikshak Parv 2022
- The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all colleges and universities to organise various events and activities on the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
- Celebrated across the country as Teachers Day on September 5, after the imposition of the National Education Policy (NEP) in 2020, the government of India, observes the day as Shikshak Parv.
- For the Shikshak Parv 2022, UGC has released a notification directing all the higher education institutions to observe the events between September 5 and September 9.
- “The idea behind the celebration of Shikshak Parv is to acknowledge the dignity of the teaching profession and contribution of teachers in nurturing young minds and nation building,” the commission wrote, in the notification.
Maitree Super Thermal Power Project Unveiled
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina jointly unveiled Unit-I of the Maitree Super Thermal Power Project following bilateral and delegation-level talks in Delhi.
- The project is being constructed under India’s concessional financing scheme. It will add 1320 MW to Bangladesh’s National Grid.
- Issues related to connectivity, energy, water resources, trade and investment, border management and security, development partnership, and regional and multilateral matters were on the agenda of the talks.
- Seven agreements, including on water resources, railways, science and technology, and space technology were exchanged following the talks. This includes an MoU between Prasar Bharati and Bangladesh Television on cooperation in the field of broadcasting.
