How to complete maximum SRT questions in 30 minutes?

A substantial portion of the Situation Reaction Test (SRT) is a test of common sense. We encounter certain unexpected and unwanted situations in daily life, and we are expected to handle them and respond appropriately to the demands of the circumstance.

During his service career, an Armed Forces officer will encounter new, unusual, and inexperienced situations that can only be dealt with if he has an alert mind, thinks logically and clearly, and makes quick decisions under stress and pressure without becoming nervous.

SRT observes a person in action and presents him with situations from his own life, to which he responds by expressing his feelings. Thus, through his performance, the individual reveals some of his personality traits and reflects his spontaneous techniques, reasoning ability, and maturity in dealing with life situations preconceived by the psychologist.

Here are a few techniques for completing maximum SRTs in 30 minutes.

  1. Write as few words as possible in your response, using action words and punctuation marks (such as a comma or a full stop), to shorten the answer. Make use of telegraphic language. This conserves time.
For example, while on his way to college, he noticed a fire in the building, and everyone panicked. He…..
    1. Action 1: He was pacifying the people to calm them down, and using fire extinguishers, he attempted to put out the fire and summoned the fire department to extinguish it. He then rescued the people from the fire and summoned an ambulance to transport them to the hospital. (IMPROPER)
Action 2: Calm the crowds, turn off the mains, use fire extinguishers, summon the fire department, rescue people, and admit them to the hospital. (PROPER)
  2. Write the entire action, not just the reaction.
For example, while playing football, he severely twisted his ankle. He….
    First aid was administered.
    1. Completed the action: administered first aid, continued playing, and won the match.
It is critical to understand that there are no right or wrong answers in any situation. A course of action must be taken, which may differ from person to person. So, instead of wasting time trying to find the correct answer, just write whatever comes to mind naturally, but it should make sense.
  3. If you have several options in mind for a given situation, write the best one down. For example, suppose he excels in his studies but is unable to pay his college fees…. In this case, you might consider writing- somehow managed or managed from a friend, later returned him. These responses reflect your trait of reliance on others. Don’t write these unless it’s absolutely necessary or there is no other option where you can’t manage on your own. You could write, work part-time, or teach classes.
  4. Although the situations are simple, if you can’t find a solution to an unusual situation, move on to the next one without wasting time.
  5. If you find that a situation is repeated in a different way, change the action but make sure it does not contradict the previous action.
  6. Always try to put yourself in the situation and then come up with a solution. This allows you to think and respond more quickly.
  7. Control your writing speed. You must concentrate and practise for this. Begin by practising without a clock or timer. Make an effort to improve your responses. As soon as you notice progress in your thinking process, try to respond faster and set a time limit of 30 seconds.
  8. Remember to practise writing quickly and legibly as well. Always remember that one learns to act appropriately in these situations through life experience rather than classroom instruction. Don’t fudge your answers; this is a natural and instinctive test of yours.
