On May 8, 2023, the maiden ASEAN India Maritime Exercise (AIME-2023) concluded successfully in the South China Sea. The international naval exercise’s Sea Phase featured around 1400 men on nine ships. The destroyer INS Delhi and the stealth frigate INS Satpura, as well as the maritime patrol aircraft P8I and integrated helicopters, were exercised with ASEAN naval ships from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The two-day sea phase saw a wide range of maritime evolutions, including tactical maneuvers, helicopter cross-deck landings, seamanship evolutions, and other maritime activities. Apart from honing nautical abilities, the exercise improved interoperability and showcased the potential of the Indian and ASEAN fleets to work together to promote peace, stability, and security in the region.

Significance Of AIME 2023
The AIME-23 is designed to promote maritime cooperation and build trust, friendship, and confidence between the ASEAN and Indian navies. The Harbour Phase, which will take place in Singapore from May 2 to May 4, will feature a variety of professional and social exchanges between the participating fleets, including cross-deck visits, Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEE), and planning discussions. The Sea Phase, which will take place in the South China Sea from May 7 to May 8, will allow participating navies to strengthen their ties in the coordination and execution of marine operations.
