Anuman App which is made and designed to provide detailed weather details and projections for the Indian Army’s deployment along the China Border and the LAC. Indian Army along with the National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting has developed an app for the commanders to get live feedback and details so that the operations and deployment in the border region can be done with ease. The Application will be launched on 19th May 2023 by Indian Army Vice Chief Suchindra Kumar in New Delhi.
Working and Significance
According to the MOU signed between Indian Army and NCMRWF, the Indian Army will be providing various observation data on Northern Borders, and in turn, will receive customized products for higher-resolution weather forecasts in the LAC region. The app is vital because meteorological inputs for commanders in the field are more important, assisting them in properly planning and carrying out operations. They are regularly used by artillery units to “temper its weapon platforms before firing projectiles through the earth’s atmosphere.”
Previously, NCMRWF data was used to improve the accuracy of artillery firing. It is also worth noting that the Indian Army has designated 2023 as the “Year of Transformation,” and is working on several technology-driven projects aimed at improving the force’s capabilities, including a battlefield surveillance system, Situational Awareness Module for the Army, Situational Reporting Over Enterprise-Class GIS Platform (E-Sitrep), Project Avagat, and Project Indra.
According to a senior Indian Army official, automation is a continuous process that evolves with technology, and a number of secure automation projects are currently underway to increase the Indian Army’s digital footprint, with the ultimate goal of simplifying systems, processes, and functions to improve operational and functional efficiency.
