The Indian Navy held the 7th edition of Japan India Maritime Exercise 2023 (JIMEX 23), which finished in the Bay of Bengal with the two sides bidding farewell to each other with a traditional steam past.

The six-day exercise was participated in by Indian Naval ships Delhi, Kamorta, and Shakti under the command of RAdm Gurcharan Singh, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, and Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) ship Samidare under the command of RAdm Nishiyama Takahiro, Commander Escort Flotilla One.

JIMEX 23 saw the two fleets conduct sophisticated exercises together. Both sides conducted advanced-level exercises in all three realms of maritime warfare: surface, subsurface, and air. Aside from ships and their attached helicopters, the exercise also included fighter planes, maritime patrol aircraft, and a submarine. JIMEX 23 concluded on a strong note, with the IN and JMSDF revalidating common procedures and improving interoperability.
