International Day Of Charity
- The International Day of Charity is an international day observed annually on 5 September. It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012.
- The prime purpose of the International Day of Charity is to raise awareness and provide a common platform for charity-related activities all over the world for individuals, charitable, philanthropic, and volunteer organizations for their own purposes at the local, national, regional, and international levels.
- The International Day of Charity was conceived as a Hungarian civil society initiative supported by the Hungarian Parliament and Government in 2011, to enhance visibility, organize special events, and in this way increase solidarity, social responsibility, and public support for the charity.
National Teachers Day
- Teachers’ Day in India is celebrated on 5th September to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
- He was a renowned scholar, recipient of Bharat Ratna, first Vice- President, and second President of independent India.
- He was born on 5 September 1888. As an educationist, he was an advocate of edification and was a distinguished envoy, academician, and above all a great teacher.
India Becomes World’s 5th Biggest Economy
- India has surpassed the United Kingdom to become the world’s 5th biggest economy.
- In a tweet, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, the International Monetary Fund’s own forecasts show India overtaking the UK in terms on an annual basis this year.
- This has put India, the Asian powerhouse, just behind the US, China, Japan, and Germany. Mrs. Sitharaman said, a decade ago, India ranked 11th among the largest economies, while the UK was 5th.
- India has surpassed the UK in GDP figures in 2022 and by 2027, it will be much higher than them in terms of economic performance. while the world is on brink of a recession, India is growing by 7 percent.
Justice DY Chandrachud Nominated To NALSA
- Senior Judge of Supreme Court of India Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud has been nominated as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority. Senior Judge of Supreme Court of India Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud has been nominated as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority. In a tweet today, Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju has extended his best wishes to Justice DY Chandrachud.
- Born in 1959, Justice DY Chandrachud was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 13th May 2016. Earlier, he served as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. He had completed his LLB from Campus Law Centre from Delhi University and obtained LLM degree and a Doctorate in Juridical Sciences from Harvard Law School in USA.
Kalyan Chaubey Elected As New President Of AIFF
- Former footballer Kalyan Chaubey has been elected as the President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Kalyan defeated the legendary Bhaichung Bhutia in the election for the top post.
- Bhutia and Chaubey were one-time teammates at East Bengal.
- Karnataka Football Association president N A Haris, a sitting Congress MLA, won the election for the lone post of vice president, beating Manvendra Singh of Rajasthan.
5.62 Lakh Defence Pensioners Migrated To SPARSH
- Defence Ministry has said that System for Pensions Administration – Raksha or SPARSH has disbursed more than three thousand ninety crore rupees to Defense Pensioners digitally in the month of August this year.
- In another milestone, more than five lakh sixty-two thousand Defence Pensioners migrated successfully on the digital platform of SPARSH in August. The total number of pensioners onboarded to SPARSH has crossed over one million mark with 11 lakh beneficiaries, which is nearly 33 per cent of the total defence pensioners in the country.
- The Ministry said, this transformational change has been made possible only through incremental innovations.
- SPARSH is a web-based system processing pension claims and crediting the pension directly into the bank accounts of defence pensioners without any external intermediary. It has grown exponentially with more than 11 thousand 600 crore rupees disbursed in 2021-22, from just about 57 crore rupees in 2020-21.
US-Pacific Island Country Summit
- The United States announced hosting the first-ever US-Pacific Island Country Summit in the last week of this month amid the growing influence of China in the Indo-Pacific region.
- The Summit will be held in Washington from 28th to 29th September The White House said in a statement that US President Joe Biden will host the Summit.
- it added the Summit will demonstrate the United States deep and enduring partnership with Pacific Island countries and the Pacific region that is underpinned by shared history, values, and people-to-people ties.
- Notably, the announcement came a week after the United States accused Beijing of expanding its nuclear arsenal and claimed the extreme buildup process could harm the stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
UN Experts Make 1st Inspection Of Zaporizhzhia Plant
- The United Nations nuclear experts have made their first inspection of the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia power plant in Ukraine.
- International Atomic Energy Agency Chief Rafael Grossi in a statement said, the plant and physical integrity of the plant had been violated several times.
- According to media reports, the inspectors were accompanied to the plant by Russian soldiers after a risky journey delayed by shelling. Russia and Ukraine accused each other of trying to sabotage the mission. Zaporizhzhia, in southern Ukraine, is Europe’s largest nuclear plant. It was occupied by Russia soon after it started special military operations against Ukraine in February.
Cyrus Mistry Killed In Road Accident In Maharashtra
- Former Chairman of Tata Sons, Cyrus Mistry was killed in a road accident at Charoti in Palghar district of Maharashtra. He was 54.
- Local police said Mistry died when his Mercedes car hit the divider on a bridge on the Surya river at around 3.15 pm. He was going to Mumbai from Ahmedabad.
- Along with Mr. Mistry, there were three others in the car. Police said, apart from Mistry, one more person died in the car mishap while two other injured have been hospitalized.
