‘Kavach’ To Cover Entire Network Of Railways

  • Indigenous Automatic Train Protection System, Kavach, developed by the Indian Railways along with three other firms, will be progressively taken up to cover the entire network of Indian Railways.
  • More than 35,000 route km on High-Density Network or Highly Utilized Network routes have been included in the works program for the last two years.
  • Kavach helps to prevent accidents due to human error resulting in signal passing at danger and over speeding, by automatic application of brakes.
  • India is one of the few countries in the world that have developed its own train protection technology.
  • Kavach has been certified for the highest level of Safety Integrity Level (SIL-4) by the Independent Safety Assessor and has the potential for adoption by other countries.

Monetary Policy Committee Meeting

  • The three-day Monetary Policy Committee Meeting began in Mumbai in the presence of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and other MPC members.
  • The MPC will announce its bi-monthly monetary policy on Friday.
  • The MPC will discuss the policy for the financial year 2022-23. RBI said that the meeting was rescheduled from August 2 to 4 to August 3 to 5 due to administrative exigencies.
  • After keeping the policy rates unchanged for almost two years the apex bank has continued the rate hike cycle this year. The RBI is expected to increase the key rates again in this policy taking the cue from the US Federal Reserve as it is facing the biggest challenge of controlling the rising inflation.
  • The Repo rate stands at 4.90 per cent, the Standing Deposit Facility rate(SDF) is at 4.65 percent, Marginal standing Facility Rate is at 5.15 percent and the reverse repo rate stands at 3.35 percent. Experts are expecting a rate hike of 25 to 50 basis points from the apex bank in this upcoming policy.

75000 Start-Ups Recognised So Far

  • India has crossed 75 thousand recognized Start-Ups. Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognized more than 75 thousand startups which is a milestone coinciding with the 75th year of independence.
  • Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a tweet that the Indian startup ecosystem continues to be fueled by innovation, enthusiasm, and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • During his Independence Day speech in 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisioned a new India which taps on the entrepreneurial potential of its people.
  • On 16th January 2016, the date which has now been declared National Startup Day, a program was initiated to lay out an action plan to build a strong ecosystem for nurturing innovation and startups in the country.
  • Six years later, the action plan has successfully turned India into the 3rd largest startup ecosystem. The initial ten thousand startups were recognized in 808 days, whereas the latest ten thousand were achieved in only 156 days. Commerce Ministry said more than 80 Startups are getting recognized per day.

Suresh N Patel Was Sworn In As CVC

  • Vigilance commissioner Suresh N Patel was on Wednesday sworn in as the Central Vigilance Commissioner, a communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
  • He made and subscribed the oath of his office before President Droupadi Murmu, it said.
  • Central Vigilance Commission is an apex Indian governmental body created in 1964 to address governmental corruption. In 2003, the Parliament enacted a law conferring statutory status on the CVC.

  • In A Response To A Tweet By Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Mr. Modi Said, It Indicates The Collective Resolve Of The People Of India To Embrace New Technologies And Make The Economy Cleaner.
  • He Said Digital Payments Were Particularly Helpful During The Covid-19 Pandemic.

4th ONGC Para Games Inaugurated

  • Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the fourth ONGC Para Games in New Delhi.
  • The ONGC Para Games is a wonderful platform to bring inclusiveness and equity in the human resource of the public enterprises under the Ministry.
  • Beginning from today the fourth ONGC Para Games are being organized by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) by the 4th of this month.
    Nearly 275 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) are participating in the Games. These all are employees of 8 central oil and gas public enterprises.

Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2021

  • The Lok Sabha passed the Wildlife (Protection), Amendment Bill, 2021, seeking to increase the species protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and implement the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, CITES.
  • In the last eight years, protected areas in the country have increased from 693 to 987, which includes fifty-two tiger reserves.
  • The bill makes amendments for better management of protected areas and to provide for certain permitted activities such as grazing or movement of livestock, and bona fide use of drinking water by local communities, till they are provided with a better displacement plan.

US Urges Citizens To Be Vigilant Post Killing Of Al-Zawahiri

  • The United States has urged its citizens to be vigilant against possible anti-American violence abroad following the killing of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.
  • The State Department said, his death could prompt al-Qaeda supporters or other linked terror groups to target US facilities and personnel.
  • Current information suggests that terrorist organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks against US interests in multiple regions across the globe.
  • Zawahiri was killed by a US drone in the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday. The killing was confirmed on Monday by US President Joe Biden.
  • Zawahiri had carved a trail of murder and violence against American citizens.
