KEEL LAYING OF THIRD 25T BP TUG, YARD 337 (ASHVA)                  

  • Keel for third 25T Bollard Pull (BP) Tug, Yard 337 (Ashva) was laid by Capt VS Bawa, WPS (Kol) on 03 Mar 23 at M/s Titagarh Wagons Pvt Ltd, Kolkata. With all major and auxiliary equipment/systems sourced from indigenous manufacturers, this Tug is the proud flag bearer of the “Make in India” initiative of the Ministry of Defence.
  • Contract for construction of six 25 Ton Bollard Pull Tugs was concluded with M/s Titagarh Wagons Ltd, Kolkata, in consonance with “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives of the Government of India. This Tug is being built with a service life of 30 years. The availability of Tugs will provide impetus to the Operational commitments of IN by facilitating assistance to naval ships and submarines in berthing and un-berthing, turning and manoeuvring in confined waters. The Tugs will also provide afloat firefighting assistance to ships alongside and at anchorage and will have the capability for limited Search and Rescue Operations.

Maiden Joint Indo-French Military Exercise                     

  • A maiden joint military exercise between the Indian and French armies will be conducted next week at the Pangode Military Station here. Titled FRINJEX-23, the joint military exercise is aimed at enhancing interoperability, coordination and cooperation b/w both forces at the tactical level.
  • “The exercise is unique in its concept and participation with the largest ever contingent being fielded by the Thiruvananthapuram-based Indian Army troops and the French 6th Light Armoured Brigade,” it said.
  • The theme for the exercise is based on “Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations in a Contested Environment”, the statement said.
  • The joint exercise intends to consolidate the Indo-France strategic partnership at the tactical level and build a strong foundation for both nations to collaborate for peace and harmony, it said.

First Ever Privately Manufactured Indigenised Fuze Of Asw Rocket Handed Over To Indian Navy   

  • Indian Navy today received a fully indigenized fuze YDB-60 for underwater Rocket RGB 60 manufactured for the first time by private Indian industry.
  • In order to provide major boost to AatmaNirbharta in Armament and Ammunition, Indian Navy received for the first time a fully indigenised fuze YDB-60 for underwater Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) Rocket RGB-60 used from major warships, through a private manufacturer M/s Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), Nagpur. This would be the first time the Indian Navy has placed supply order for underwater ammunition fuze on an Indian Private industry.
  • Shri Satyanarayan Nuwal, the CMD of M/s EEL, Nagpur handed over the first consignment of the fuze to Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, Vice Chief of Naval Staff (VCNS).
  • Speaking on this occasion, VAdm Ghormade stated that “The growing participation of private industries in manufacture of armament and ammunition is appreciable and this is providing a major boost in the AatmaNirbharta of Armed Forces. Development and Manufacture of such a fuze by private industry for the first time, using simulated dynamic trial facilities is a major achievement for the country”.
  • All technical assistance to the manufacturer towards creating a vibrant ecosystem for manufacture of ammunition and fuze in India in pursuit of AatmaNirbharta’ has been provided by the Directorate General of Naval Armament (DGONA) and Directorate General of Naval Armament Inspection (DGNAI), Indian Navy.

Ukraine War Teaches Us To Be Self-reliant: CDS Anil Chauhan      

  • Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan on Friday said that the biggest lesson from the Ukraine conflict is that “we need to be self-reliant,” as India cannot be dependent on the supply of weapon systems from “outside.”
  • The conference which is being organised under the theme “Provocation, Uncertainty, Turbulence: Lighthouse in the Tempest,” will witness the participation of representatives from over 100 countries.
  • The Chief of Defence Staff said a large number of initiatives have been taken by the government for self-reliant initiative and that the services would be the driving force for it to succeed.
  • Gen Chauhan said if the services strongly go for it, then “we are going to achieve whatever the government wants.”
  • In his remarks at the session, General Angus J Campbell, the Chief of the Defence Force of Australia slammed Russia for the Ukraine war.
  • “This is an illegal, unjust and outrageous invasion and violation of sovereign territory and integrity of a sovereign nation,” he said.

French Foreign Minister Colonna, NSA Doval Hold Talks On Counter-terrorism Cooperation   

  • French Minister of Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Friday held talks on counter-terrorism cooperation and joint endeavours towards strategic autonomy.
  • During her visit to India, Catherine Colonna participated in the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi. She attended the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting.
  • French Minister of Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna said that France will stand side by side with India over the next decades. Speaking at the unveiling of the Villa Swagatam Initiative on March 3, she said that India and France share links in security, defence and various sectors.
  • Colonna said that France is keen on engaging with new artists, writers, academics, and scientists which she stressed are the backbone of India-France ties. In her remarks at the launch of the Villa Swagatam Initiative, she said that cultural policy is in the DNA of diplomacy and at the very core of bilateral ties with India.
  • “As you know, cultural policy is in the DNA of our diplomacy, and at the very core of our bilateral relationship with India. We are keen on engaging with new artists, writers, academics, scientists as you are the true backbone of our partnership,” Colonna said.
