Successful Firing Of Extended Range Version Of Brahmos Air Launched Missile
- Indian Air Force today successfully fired the Extended Range Version of Brahmos Air Launched missile against a Ship Target from a SU-30MKI aircraft. The missile achieved the desired mission objectives in the Bay of Bengal region. With this, IAF has achieved a significant capability boost to carry out precision strikes from SU-30MKI aircraft against land/ sea targets over very long ranges. The extended range capability of the missile coupled with the high performance of the SU-30MKI aircraft gives the IAF a strategic reach and allows it to dominate the future battle fields. The dedicated and synergetic efforts of IAF, Indian Navy, DRDO, BAPL and HAL have been instrumental in achieving this feat.
- BrahMos is a joint venture between the Defence Research and Development Organisation of India (DRDO) and the NPOM of Russia.
- BrahMos is named on the rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva.
- It is a two-stage (solid propellant engine in the first stage and liquid ramjet in second) missile.
- It is a multiplatform missile i.e it can be launched from land, air, and sea and multi capability missile with pinpoint accuracy that works in both day and night irrespective of the weather conditions.
- It operates on the “Fire and Forgets” principle i.e it does not require further guidance after launch.
- Brahmos is one of the fastest cruise missile currently operationally deployed with speed of Mach 2.8, which is nearly 3 times more than the speed of sound.

Indian Army Inaugurates First Ever Two Storey 3-D Printed Dwelling
- The Indian Army inaugurated its first 3-D Printed House Dwelling Unit for soldiers at Ahmedabad Cantt on 28 December 2022. The dwelling unit has been constructed by Military Engineering Services in collaboration with MiCoB Pvt Ltd incorporating the latest 3D Rapid Construction Technology.
- The technique utilises a concrete 3D printer that accepts a computerised three-dimensional design and fabricates a 3-D structure in a layer-by-layer manner by extruding a specialised type of concrete specifically designed for the purpose.
- Ahmedabad based Golden Katar Division of Indian Army has been instrumental in pursuing the project with manifold applications even in operations. Indian Army units have already dovetailed 3D printing technology in construction of pre-casted permanent defences and overhead protection meant for operations.
- Construction work of the dwelling unit measuring 71 sqm with garage space was completed in just 12 weeks by utilising the 3D printed foundation, walls and slabs. The disaster-resilient structures comply with Zone-3 earthquake specifications and green building norms. The 3-D printed houses are symbolic of the modern-day rapid construction efforts to cater for growing accommodation requirements of the Armed Forces personnel. This structure also stands testament to the commitment of Indian Army in fostering the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’.
US Approves USD 180 Million Anti-tank Weapon Sale To Taiwan
- The US State Department has approved a USD 180 million anti-tank weapon sale to Taiwan, an island that China regards as its own territory.
- The State Department has made a determination to approve a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the US of Volcano anti-tank munition-laying systems and related equipment for an estimated cost of USD 180 million.
- This military support comes two days after President Tsai Ing-wen on Tuesday announced that compulsory military service in the island will be extended from four months to one year, effective January 1, 2024, to strengthen Taiwan’s combat readiness against potential Chinese attacks.
- Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, is a country in East Asia, at the junction of the East and South China Seas in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, with the People’s Republic of China to the northwest, Japan to the northeast, and the Philippines to the south.

Ladakh Ignited Minds: A Centre Of Excellence And Wellness
- Indian Army signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and executing agency National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation, (NIEDO) for Ladakh Ignited Minds-2 for Academic Session 2022-23 after the huge success of the Project Ladakh Ignited Minds: 2021-22, conceptualised to secure a better future for the youth of UT of Ladakh as a full-time residential program, to mentor and guide the students for entrance examinations of various Medical and Engineering Colleges.
- Academic Session 2021-22 consisted of 55 students out of which 21 students qualified for IIT & prestigious engineering colleges and 28 students had qualified in the NEET exams and have joined the best medical/ dental colleges across India.
- The MoU was signed between Fire and Fury Corps, corporate partner Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and executing agency National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation, (NIEDO) on 24 Dec 2022 at HQ 14 Corps, Leh in the presence of Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, AVSM, YSM, GOC 14 Corps. Shri Deepak Kumar, Senior Regional Manager, J&K retail, HPCL, Dr Rohit Srivastav, Managing Trustee and CEO, NIEDO and various other senior Army officials and civil dignitaries were also present on occasion.
- “The Ladakh Ignited Minds initiative has been conceptualised to mentor and guide the students and provide value-based education. Right from career selection, soft skill training, critical life competencies, leadership capabilities, personal conditioning, wellness programs, vocational training and personality development till they become a productive human resource for the nation. Ladakh Ignited Minds-2 consists of 47 number of students who will be undergoing this training,” Defence PRO, Srinagar said.
- Dignitaries speaking on the occasion highlighted that Army is making efforts to provide skill development training and empower the youth of Ladakh towards securing seats in leading institutions of India for their better future.
- Such efforts are a result of the continuous interaction of the Indian Army with the Locals. This initiative will certainly enthuse a new ray of hope for its youth.
India, Cyprus Sign Agreement On Defence And Military Cooperation
- EAM S Jaishankar and his Cyprus counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides signed an MoU on Defence and Military Cooperation, in Nicosia on Thursday.
- He said this deal will help provide a common framework of arrangement and cooperation to facilitate the mobility of students, business people and professionals. “It will also help in combatting irregular migration,” he said.
- The ministers had a very productive discussion with his Cyprus counterpart on both bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The two ministers also exchanged views on their respective neighborhoods, Indo-Pacfic region, West Asia, and India-EU ties.
- Cyprus on Thursday thanked India for supporting the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, wherein Security Council expressed concern over unauthorized activities in the buffer zone separating Greek and Turkish communities in the northern and southern regions of the Mediterranean island since 1974.
