TACTICAL RESCUE OPERATION FROM SUDAN BY IAF C-17 

  • In the midnight hours of 03 – 04 May 23, an Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft airborne from Hindan, flew through the night to land in the early morning hours at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
  • The aircraft refuelled at Jeddah to undertake a nonstop flight from Jeddah, via war torn Sudan and back to India. The aircraft took excess fuel from Jeddah to avoid a situation of non-availability of fuel and refuelling delays in Sudan.
  • The mission was one of a kind, with the aircraft carrying 192 passengers, mostly ladies, children and elderly persons, who either were NRIs, foreign nationals or OCIs (Overseas Citizens of India). These people could not be taken to Jeddah and hence were required to be flown directly to India in a nonstop flight by the heavy jet.

Army Grounds ALH Dhruv Fleet Following May 4 Crash In J&K                              

  • The Army has grounded the entire fleet of Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv following the crash of one of the choppers in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, military sources said. An ALH Dhruv with 3 people on board crashed following a “hard landing” in Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
  • A technician was killed, and two pilots were injured in the incident.
  • As a precautionary measure, the ALH Dhruv fleet has been temporarily grounded, the sources said.
  • The Navy and the Coast Guard had grounded their respective ALH Dhruv fleets in March following two similar incidents involving the platform.
  • The sources said the ALH Dhruv choppers with the Navy and the Coast Guard are undergoing technical checks.

Raksha Mantri Visits Army Base Camp In Rajouri 

  • Rajnath Singh took stock of the operational preparedness of the Indian Army and the security situation along the border during his visit to the Army Base Camp in Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir on May 06, 2023.
  • J&K Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi were present during the review meeting.
  • The Raksha Mantri interacted with the soldiers and commended their valour and zeal while operating in challenging situations. He motivated them to continue working with the same dedication and bravery, stating that the Government and the people of the country are with the Armed Forces always.
  • The military services have taken significant steps to promote gender equality, including assigning women to command positions, preparing them for future leadership roles, and allowing them to join the artillery unit.

BRO 64th Raising Day

Indian Navy Decommissioned INS Magar After 36 Years Of Service

  • INS Magar, the oldest Landing Ship Tank (Large) of the Indian Navy, was decommissioned after 36 years of service at a Naval base in Kochi.
  • INS Magar was launched on 16 Nov 1984 by Meera Tahiliani and commissioned on 18 Jul 1987 at Garden Reach Shipyard and Engineers Limited, Kolkata by late Admiral RH Tahiliani.
