Integrated Rocket Force: Indian Army and Air Force to Exchange BrahMos Crews

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Army have commenced the exchange of BrahMos Crew officers between respective grades of Captain and Major. This exchange programme will train these officers to operate each other’s BrahMos Cruise missile Batteries, establishing the groundwork for their future collaboration as part of the Integrated Rocket Force (IRF). The IRF will be outfitted with a variety of missiles, including BrahMos, Pinaka, Pralay, and subsonic cruise missiles.

Integrated Rocket Force

The Integrated Rocket Force will take over responsibility for the existing BrahMos Missile regiments, which currently operate the supersonic cruise missile. This force will be a tri-service organisation, combining the skills and capabilities of the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, and Indian Navy. The IRF was formed with the goal of developing a specialised force committed to non-contact conventional warfare. In 2021, former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat proposed the establishment of the IRF for non-contact conventional warfare. Since that time, attempts have been made to accelerate the development of both short- and long-range conventional missiles.
