CAPSS–HQ Maintenance Command Joint Aerospace Seminar
The Headquarters Maintenance Command of the Indian Air Force, together with the Centre for Airpower and Strategic Studies (CAPSS), organised a Joint Aerospace Power Seminar in Nagpur. The seminar focused on the theme “Efficient Maintenance and Atmanirbharta Enablers of Airpower.”
Senior military officers, aerospace experts, policymakers, and defence specialists participated in discussions regarding the importance of efficient maintenance systems in strengthening India’s airpower capabilities. The seminar emphasised that modern warfare not only depends on advanced aircraft and weapons but also on strong maintenance infrastructure that ensures operational readiness.
Experts shared views on:
- advanced maintenance technologies,
- modern repair systems,
- indigenous aerospace manufacturing,
- policy reforms,
- and improved logistics management.
The event also highlighted the importance of aligning maintenance strategies with India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in the defence sector. Discussions focused on reducing dependence on foreign suppliers and increasing domestic production of aerospace components and technologies.
Kalam & Kavach 3.0: Strengthening India’s Defence Vision
Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth is set to inaugurate the third edition of Kalam & Kavach 3.0 at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi on May 14, 2026.
The conference has emerged as an important platform where policymakers, military leaders, defence industries, diplomats, start-ups, innovators, and academics come together to discuss India’s future security challenges and defence preparedness.
The event revolves around the strategic vision called JAI:
- Jointness,
- Aatmanirbharta,
- Innovation.
Alongside this, the conference also promotes:
- Indigenisation,
- International collaboration.
The objective is to strengthen integrated military capabilities while encouraging advanced technological development within India’s defence ecosystem.
Major areas of discussion include:
- AI-enabled warfare,
- autonomous weapon systems,
- hypersonic technologies,
- quantum-enabled C4ISR systems,
- space security,
- low-earth orbit threats,
- and Tri-service integration.
The conference demonstrates India’s effort to prepare for future warfare through technological superiority and stronger coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Rolls-Royce and HAL Expand Aerospace Manufacturing in India
International Aerospace Manufacturing Private Limited (IAMPL), the joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, announced a major expansion of its manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
The company unveiled a new 12-acre expansion project aimed at increasing India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities. The facility will manufacture advanced jet engine components for both domestic and international markets.
IAMPL has been operating since 2012 as a 50:50 partnership between Rolls-Royce and HAL. The company specialises in producing highly precise turbine and compressor components used in technologically advanced jet engines.
The expansion is expected to:
- strengthen India’s aerospace supply chain,
- support global aviation markets,
- create high-skilled employment opportunities,
- and enhance indigenous manufacturing capabilities.
The project also aligns with India’s ambition to become a global hub for aerospace and defence production.
Mission Drishti: India’s Revolutionary OptoSAR Satellite
India achieved a major milestone in space technology with the launch of Mission Drishti, the world’s first OptoSAR satellite developed by Indian private space company GalaxEye.
The 190-kilogram satellite is considered India’s largest privately built spacecraft. It combines electro-optical imaging with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology on a single platform. This dual capability allows the satellite to capture high-quality images in all weather conditions during both day and night.
The satellite was launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg, California.
Mission Drishti represents a major technological breakthrough because conventional imaging satellites often face limitations during cloudy weather or nighttime conditions. By integrating SAR technology with optical systems, the satellite ensures continuous Earth observation and surveillance capability.
The mission is strategically important for India because it can support:
- border surveillance,
- disaster management,
- environmental monitoring,
- maritime security,
- and defence intelligence operations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the achievement and described it as an example of India’s growing innovation ecosystem and youth-driven technological progress.
BRICS Talks and West Asia Tensions
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi.
The meeting comes at a time of increasing tensions in West Asia following the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Araghchi’s visit marks the first major diplomatic engagement between India and Iran since the escalation of the conflict.
Iran has been urging BRICS nations, especially India as the current chair, to adopt a stronger diplomatic position regarding the crisis. However, differences among BRICS members have made it difficult to achieve a unified stance.
The BRICS meeting is expected to focus on:
- regional security,
- global governance reforms,
- multilateral cooperation,
- economic resilience,
- sustainability,
- and innovation.
One important challenge facing BRICS is maintaining internal unity amid growing geopolitical divisions among member nations.
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is expected to miss the gathering due to overlapping diplomatic engagements in Beijing. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is among the senior leaders attending the summit discussions.
Conclusion
The developments witnessed across defence, aerospace, diplomacy, and space technology highlight India’s growing strategic ambitions in 2026. Whether through indigenous defence manufacturing, advanced satellite innovation, global diplomatic engagement, or military modernisation, India is steadily strengthening its position as a major global power.
Initiatives such as Mission Drishti, Kalam & Kavach 3.0, and aerospace manufacturing expansion demonstrate the country’s commitment to self-reliance and technological advancement. At the same time, India’s active participation in BRICS diplomacy reflects its expanding role in shaping global strategic discussions.
