Campaign On International Coastal Cleanliness
- The government is gearing up for a mass cleanliness campaign on International Coastal Cleanliness Day on the 17th of September.
- On the day, the 75-day long Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar Campaign, which was initiated on 5th July this year, will also conclude.
- Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Union Minister for Earth Sciences Dr. Jitendra Singh said with the help of civil society, the government is working towards imbibing the spirit of oceanic cleanliness among the people.
- Dr. Singh said, on the 17th of September, the coastal cleanup drive will be carried out at 75 beaches across the country with 75 volunteers for every kilometer of the coastline.
- The three underlying goals of the Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar campaign are to Consume Responsibly, Segregate waste at home and Dispose of Responsibly. An estimated expenditure of about ten crore rupes is envisaged for the campaign.
India To Assume The Presidency Of G20 For One Year
- India will host the G20 Leaders’ Summit at the level of Heads of State and Government on 9th and 10th September next year in New Delhi.
- India will assume the Presidency of the G20 for one year from 1st December this year to 30 November next year. It is expected to host over two hundred G20 meetings across the country.
- The G20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. It comprises 19 countries including Australia, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, UK, USA, and the European Union.
- Collectively, the G20 accounts for 85 per cent of global GDP, 75 per cent of international trade and two-thirds of the world population, making it the premier forum for international economic cooperation. India is currently part of the G20 Troika comprising Indonesia, Italy, and India.
- During the Presidency, India, Indonesia and Brazil would form the troika. This will be the first time when the troika would consist of three developing countries and emerging economies, providing them a greater voice.
UN Says 50 Million People Stuck In Modern Slavery
- The United Nations said that the number of people forced to work or in a marriage against their will has surged in recent years to around 50 million. The UN’s International Labour Organization (ILO) on Monday upon releasing its modern slavery report said that compared to the last count for the year 2016, the number of people in modern slavery has risen by around 9.3 million.
- It said, crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, armed conflicts and climate change have led to unprecedented disruption to employment and education.
- According to the latest figures, forced labour accounted for 27.6 million of those in modern slavery in 2021, including 3.3 million are children and 22 million forced marriage.
- The ILO found that more than half of all forced labour occurred in either upper-middle income or high-income countries, with migrant workers more than three times as likely to be affected.
- The Agency report also pointed to concern about forced labour in parts of China.
AIIA Launches Ayurveda Day 2022 Programme
- All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) has launched Ayurveda Day 2022 programme. The six-week long programme will continue till 23rd of October. AIIA has been chosen as the nodal agency for driving the Ministry of Aayush’s mandate for Ayurveda Day this year. The theme for the celebration is ‘Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda’.
- Ministry of AYUSH celebrates Ayurveda Day every year on Dhanvantari Jayanti and this year it will be celebrated on 23 October. The Ministry is celebrating it in collaboration with all the Ministries and departments of Government of India so that every person of the nation is made aware of traditional system of medicine.
Per Capita Spending On Healthcare Increases By 74%
- The per capita government spending on healthcare has increased by 74 per cent since 2013-14. As per National Health Accounts Estimates India 2018-19, the per capita government spending in 2013-14 was one thousand forty-two rupees, which has increased to one thousand eight hundred and fifteen rupees.
- It said, government’s share in the overall spending on health in the country is increasing steadily. The government’s share in current health expenditure has increased from 23.2 per cent in 2013-14 to 34.5 per cent in 2018-19.
- The government spending on primary healthcare has increased since 2013-14. The government health expenditure during that period on primary healthcare was around 51 per cent, which has increased to over 55 per cent in 2018-19.
- The per capita Out-of-pocket expenditure in the country has also decreased by eight per cent since 2013-14.
Early Intervention Centre ‘Prayas’ Established
- Early Intervention Centre- Prayas has been established at Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in New Delhi to alleviate the suffering and instill confidence in parents in dealing with differently abled children.
- Defence Ministry said, the Centre is a comprehensive state-of-the-art facility which is dedicated to the children with special needs.
- Children of Armed Forces personnel upto six years of age suffering from autism, cerebral palsy, sleep and language delay and other disabilities will benefit immensely from this venture.
- The Centre was inaugurated by President of Army Wives Welfare Association Archana Pande, in the presence of Chief of the Army Staff Gen Manoj Pande.
- The newly established Centre has facilities of advanced screening for hearing and visual defects, detection of Autism, clinical identification of various syndromes and therapeutic facilities.
- A multi-disciplinary approach combining expertise of various therapists will work together to enhance the capabilities of the special children.
Govt To Develop Electric Highways Powered By Solar Energy
- Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that the government is working on developing electric highways powered by solar energy. He said it will facilitate the charging of heavy duty trucks and buses while running.
- Inaugurating virtually the 19th Indo-US Economic Summit of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Mr. Gadkari said that India is becoming the largest EV market for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and cars. and the government is strongly encouraging solar and wind energy-based charging mechanism for electric mobility.
- He said US-based companies can collaborate with India’s research and development efforts toward EV battery technologies and retrofitting industry.
- Mr. Gadkari said that Road infrastructure plays a critical role in the growth of the Indian economy as 70 per cent of goods and nearly 90 per cent of passenger traffic uses the road network to commute. In 2014, the country had around 91 thousand Kilometers of National Highway network which has now reached one lakh 47 thousand kilometers now.
Amit Shah Meets Political Leadership Of Naga Groups
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah met a wide spectrum of the political leadership of Naga Groups, led by Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphu Riu in New Delhi.
- Many issues were discussed at the meeting.
- A Home Ministry Spokesperson in a tweet said talks over the Naga issues have been in progress for a number of years. It has always been the endeavour of the Government of India under PM Modi to have a peaceful and prosperous Northeast.
- With this resolve, the efforts of the Government of India have been to resolve the many complicated issues that are involved in the Naga talks, in such a way that there is all round satisfaction at the conclusion of the negotiations.
- The spokesperson said, since negotiations are still ongoing, any report on possible solutions to various issues during the negotiations would only be speculative.
