World Dairy Summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the country is building the largest database of dairy animals and every animal associated with the dairy sector is being tagged.
  • Inaugurating the International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit 2022, in  Greater Noida, Mr. Modi said that India’s dairy sector is recognised for production by masses rather than mass production.
  • He said, India has become the largest producer of dairy products in the world due to the collective efforts of small-scale dairy farmers. 
  • He said, in 2014, India produced 146 million tonnes of milk and now it has increased to 210 million tonnes, which is an increase of about 44 percent.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi says the country is building the largest database of dairy animals ;
  • The Prime Minister said, the potential of the dairy sector not only gives impetus to the rural economy, but it is also a major source of livelihood for crores of people across the world.
  • He said, unlike other developed countries of the world, in India the driving force of the dairy sector are the small farmers. Mr Modi highlighted that Government’s focus is to develop a balanced dairy ecosystem.

‘Water Heroes: Share Your Stories Contest’

  • Jal Shakti ministry has announced the winners of ‘Water Heroes: Share Your Stories Contest’ for the month of August 2022. Six persons were named as winners and they are to receive a cash prize of ten thousand rupees and a certificate.
  • The contest is held monthly on MyGov portal with the objective of promoting value of water, in general, and for supporting country-wide efforts on water conservation and sustainable development of water resources.
  • The third edition of the contest was launched on 1st December 2021 and will end on 30th November 2022.
  • The aim of the contest is to create awareness for water conservation by enhancing knowledge and sharing experiences of water heroes; and to create an attitude towards water conservation and management so that a behavioral change can be created amongst all stakeholders.

G B Pant Remembered On His 135th Jayanti

  • Govind Ballabh Pant (10 September 1887 – 7 March 1961) was an Indian freedom fighter and the first chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Alongside Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Vallabh Bhai Patel, Pant was a key figure in the movement for India’s Independence and later a pivotal figure in the Indian Government.
  • He was one of the foremost political leaders of Uttar Pradesh (then known as United Provinces) and a key player in the unsuccessful movement to establish Hindi as the national language of Indian Union.
  • Today, several Indian hospitals, educational institutions and foundations bear his name. Pant received India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1957.

PM Matsya Sampada Yojana Completes 2 Years

  • The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) completed its Second anniversary.
  • The scheme envisages the generation of 68 lakh employment by the end of 2024-25. The Fisheries sector has shown an impressive growth of 14.3 per cent from 2019-20 to 2021-22.
  • The Fish production has reached an all-time high of 161.87 lakh tons during 2021-22. The sector saw all-time high exports of 13.64 lakh tonnes amounting to 57 thousand 587 crore rupees, dominated by exports of Shrimps. The PMMSY has supported 31.47 lakh farmers under insurance coverage across the country.
  • The Department of Fisheries, Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, held an event in New Delhi to commemorate the Second anniversary.

Cheetah Re-Introduction Project

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Cheetah re-introduction project on the 17th of this month. Disclosing this at the inaugural meeting of the national conference for the Zoo Directors being held in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar, the Union Minister for the environment, forest and climate change Bhupender Yadav said that Cheetah will be brought from Namibia for the purpose.
  • Stating that this is for the first time that the Cheetah is being re-introduced after its disappearance from India in the 1950s, the minister emphasized on the need to connect the younger generation with the world of the wild animals.
  • Calling upon the zoo authorities to make the zoos a place of educating people about the wild animals, the minister said that the zoos serve in adding to the enjoyment of the people- particularly of the low and middle-income strata of our society. He added that the zoos are also a kind of stress buster as a side product and this needs to recognised.

Acharya Vinoba Bhave Remembered On His Jayanti

  • Vinayak Narahari also known as Vinoba Bhave; (11 September 1895 – 15 November 1982) was an Indian advocate of nonviolence and human rights. Often called Acharya (Sanskrit for teacher), he is best known for the Bhoodan Movement.
  • He is considered a National Teacher of India and the spiritual successor of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • He was an eminent philosopher. The Gita has also been translated into the Marathi language by him with the title Geetai (meaning ‘Mother Gita’ in Marathi).

Carlos Alcaraz Wins US Open Men’s Singles title

  • Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz beat Casper Ruud to win Men’s Singles title at the US Open tennis in New York last night. Alcaraz defeated Ruud in a four-set thriller to clinch his maiden Grand Slam.
  • The 19-year-old Alcaraz is the youngest men’s Grand Slam champion since Rafael Nadal won the French Open in 2005. The US Open title win also sees him become the youngest world number 1.
