State Funeral Of Queen Elizabeth II In London

  • As Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral is set to take place at Westminster Abbey, the monarch’s coffin which lay-in-state in the Westminster Hall will be transferred to the nearby Westminster Abbey ahead of the funeral.
  • The church in London played a significant role in Queen Elizabeth II’s life. The ceremonial processions taking the Queen’s coffin to Westminster Abbey and then towards her burial place at Windsor are part of the ancient traditions of the British monarchy.
  • Royal Navy sailors will use ropes to pull the queen’s coffin mounted on a gun carriage from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey. A team of 142 sailors will walk alongside to act as a brake if necessary.
  • Eight soldiers will have the task of carrying the queen’s coffin from Westminster Hall to the gun carriage outside, and then into Westminster Abbey.
  • Around 6,000 soldiers, sailors, and aircrew from the British armed forces will take part in the procession.

Bengaluru Beat Mumbai To Win Durand Cup 2022

  • Sunil Chhetri Added Yet Another Feather To His Cap After Winning The Coveted Durand Cup Title After Bengaluru FC Beat Mumbai City FC By A Margin Of 2-1 In The Summit Clash In Kolkata.
  • The Durand Football Tournament, commonly known as Durand Cup, is an annual domestic football competition in India that was first held in 1888 in Shimla.
  • Hosted by the Durand Football Tournament Society (DFTS) and All India Football Federation (AIFF), the tournament is the oldest existing club football tournament in Asia and the third oldest in the world

Global Clean Energy Action Forum

  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said that Global Clean Energy Action Forum meet offers India an opportunity to present Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision before the world. The Minister said this while briefing media before leaving on a five-day visit to US as the head of a high-level Joint Ministerial official delegation.
  • The forum will bring together all the stakeholders and it is an acknowledgement of the leading role assumed by India in issues related to Clean Energy concerns.
  • He said he is looking forward to close engagements at the Plenary and Roundtables of Global Clean Energy Action Forum, especially in the light of recent breakthroughs in the areas of Clean Energy Technologies both at home and abroad.
  • Dr Singh recalled that only last month, the Union Cabinet had approved India’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution to be communicated to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
  • National Hydrogen Mission aims to aid the government in meeting its climate targets and making India a green hydrogen hub. He added that this will help in meeting the target of production of 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030 and the related development of renewable energy capacity.

Bajrang Punia Bags Bronze Medal At WWC

  • In Wrestling, ace Indian wrestler and Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia captured a bronze medal in the men’s 65 kg category at World Wrestling Championships.
  • He defeated Puerto Rico’s Sebastian C Rivera by 11-9. This is Punia’s fourth medal at the Championships, starting his journey with bronze in 2013.
  • He went on to win silver in the 2018 Championships and followed it with another bronze in 2019. Now, he has four championship medals.
  • This is India’s second medal at the ongoing edition of the World Wrestling Championships.
  • Indian wrestler and Commonwealth Games 2022 gold medalist Vinesh Phogat captured a bronze medal in the women’s 53 kg category at the ongoing World Wrestling Championships 2022 in Belgrade on Wednesday.

US Forces Will Defend Taiwan If China Invades: Biden

  • US President Joe Biden said on Sunday that US forces would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion.
  • Mr. Biden made the comments during an interview with a news outlet. However, the US President reiterated that the US maintains a One China policy and does not support Taiwan’s independence.
  • Meanwhile, a White House official said that US policy toward Taiwan has not changed.
  • A visit to Taipei by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last month has led to increased tensions between Beijing and Washington over Taiwan.

GeM Facilitated Over 1 Crore Transactions

  • Deputy CEO of Government e-Market Place (GeM) A V Muraleedharan says the heterogeneous nature of the public procurement portal’s seller base reflects the founding pillar of inclusivity.
  • Addressing a Seller Samvad organized in Kochi today, he said starting from big companies and conglomerates, the seller base includes self-help groups and MSME sellers from all over the country.
  • Muraleedharan said GeM has been able to bring about radical changes in the way procurement was done by government buyers and public sector undertakings.
  • He noted that cumulatively GeM has facilitated over one crore transactions valued at over three lakh crore rupees. He said 62,000 registered government buyers and 51 lakh sellers and service providers speak for the size and scale of GeM operations.

State Level Institution On Lines Of NITI Aayog

  • A state-level institution on the lines of NITI Aayog will be established in Maharashtra. It will help to bring drastic changes in sectors like agriculture, health, education, employment, environment, etc. in the state.
  • The Chief executive officer of NITI Aayog and other experts made a presentation on how Maharashtra will be assisted by the Aayog in bringing about changes in various sectors.
  • State government is planning to achieve target one trillion-dollar economy by 2030, but with more hard work it can be achieved by 2027.
  • He further said, ‘Asset monetization’ is important factor tabled by the NITI Aayog and the new constructed Samruddhi Mahamarg in the state is the best example of asset monetization.

S Jaishankar Arrives In New York For 77th UNGA

  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in New York last night to participate in the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. During his visit to New York on the first leg of his US tour, Dr. Jaishankar will lead the India delegation for the High-Level Week at the United Nations General Assembly.
  • The theme of the 77th UNGA is ‘A Watershed Moment: Transformative Solutions to Interlocking Challenges’.
  • In keeping with India’s strong commitment to reformed multilateralism, the Minister will host a Ministerial meeting of the G4 – India, Brazil, Japan, and Germany – as well as participate at the High-Level Meeting of the L-69 Group on ‘Reinvigorating Multilateralism and Achieving Comprehensive Reform of the UN Security Council’.
  • The L-69 Group consists of developing countries from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Small Island Developing States, focused on reforms of the UN Security Council.
