Manipur Unrest: Curfew Imposed

The Manipur gov imposed a curfew in most of the districts and suspended mobile internet services in the entire state for five days with immediate effect from Tuesday after a mass rally organized by the All-Tribal Students’ Union Manipur turned violent in an area bordering Bishnupur and Churachandpur dis.
The rally “solidarity march” was organized in protest against the demand for inclusion of the state’s Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, following an April 19 Manipur High Court directive.
The development has reopened an old ethnic Faultline in the state between the plain-dwelling Meitei community and the hill tribes.

Following the HC’s directive on April 19 — to recommend for inclusion of the Meitei/Meetei community in the Scheduled Tribe list of the Constitution of India — the state’s tribal groups had expressed their strong opposition.

Kishtwar Army Chopper Crash

An Army Aviation ALH Dhruv helicopter on an operational mission crashed while making a ‘precautionary landing’ on the banks of the Marua River in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar.
The pilots had reported a technical fault to the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and proceeded for a ‘precautionary landing’ at about 11.15 hours on May 4.
Craftsman Pabballa Anil later succumbed to his injuries. The 30-year-old was a native of Malkapur village in Telangana’s Rajanna Sircilla district.
In March this year, two pilots were killed after an Army aviation Cheetah helicopter crashed while flying an operational sortie near Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh.

IAF Chief Meets Sri Lanka PM Gunawardena On Second Day Of Island Nation’s Visit

IAF Chief VR Chaudhari met Sri Lanka Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on the second day of his four-day visit to the island nation and discussed bilateral ties.
The bilateral talks between the leaders assured IAF’s steadfast commitment to Sri Lanka at all times when India is called upon.
Furthermore, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) also gave a talk at the prestigious Sri Lankan National Defence College.
India and Sri Lanka are two South Asian nations situated in the Indian Ocean region. Geographically, Sri Lanka is located just off the southern coast of India, separated by the Palk Strait.
India is Sri Lanka’s third largest export destination, after the US and UK. More than 60% of Sri Lanka’s exports enjoy the benefits of the India-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement. India is also a major investor in Sri Lanka.

EU Warns Moscow Not To Use Drone ‘Attack’ To Escalate War

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell warned Moscow on Thursday to not use an alleged drone attack that it said targeted the Kremlin to escalate its war in Ukraine.
Moscow said anti-aircraft units shot down the drones, claiming the alleged attack was an assassination attempt on Russian President Vladimir Putin, who does not sleep in the Kremlin.
The White House said Wednesday that the Kremlin was “lying” by accusing Washington of guiding Ukraine to launch the alleged drone attack.
