The man who is frequently credited with being the father of artificial intelligence has left Google, citing worries about the spread of false information, the potential for AI to completely change the employment market, and the “existential risk” posed by the development of true digital intelligence. As initially reported by the New York Times, Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, who constructed a neural net in 2012 at the University of Toronto with two of his students, left Google this week.

Who Is Geoffrey Hinton?

Hinton, 75, Is A UK-Born Researcher And Academic. He Began His Career With A BA In Experimental Psychology From The University Of Cambridge In 1970 And Followed It With A Ph.D. In Artificial Intelligence From The University Of Edinburgh In Scotland In 1978.
In The 1980s, As Most AI Research In The United States Was Funded By The US Military, Hinton Said He Was Opposed To Contributing To Research For Possibly Using AI In The Battlefield. This Prompted His Move To Canada.

Hinton’s Contribution To The Development Of AI?

A Computer Program Or Code Is Written By Hand For Each Specific Task To Be Completed By A Machine (Like Showing The User A Photo Or Text).
But In Machine Learning, Lots Of Examples Are Collected And Fed Into The Machine, In Order To Teach It To Identify The Correct Output For A Given Input.

Hinton Was Elected A Fellow Of The Royal Society (FRS) In 1998.
He Was The First Winner Of The Rumelhart Prize In 2001.
In 2001, Hinton Was Awarded An Honorary Doctorate From The University Of Edinburgh.
Together With Yann Lecun And Yoshua Bengio, Hinton Won The 2018 Turing Award.
In 2018, He Became A Companion Of The Order Of Canada.
In 2022, He Received The Princess Of Asturias Award In The Scientific Research Category, Along With Yann Lecun, Yoshua Bengio, And Demis Hassabis.
