The 12th edition of the joint military exercise “Ex Ekuverin” between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force has begun in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand, and will run from June 11 to June 24, 2023. Ekuverin, which means “Friends,” is a biannual exercise held alternately in India and the Maldives.

A platoon-sized group from the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force participated in the 14-day drill. The exercise aims to improve interoperability in counter-insurgency/counter-terrorism operations under the UN mandate and to carry out cooperative humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. The goal is to share best practices and improve tactical coordination and cooperation between both forces.
The 11th iteration of the exercise took place in December 2021 in the Maldives. The two countries’ defence cooperation ranges from joint exercises to supporting the Maldives with defence training and equipment requirements. Both countries enjoy close and friendly relations in economic, cultural, and military collaboration. ‘Ex Ekuverin’ will contribute to the strengthening of these ties between the two countries.
