The United Nations Cultural And Scientific Organisation (UNESCO) has announced that the United States intends to rejoin – and pay more than $600 million in back dues – following a decade-long dispute sparked by the organization’s decision to admit Palestine as a member. In a special meeting on Monday, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay informed ambassadors from member countries of the US decision. After a 5-year hiatus, the United States has decided to rejoin UNESCO.
