Putin’s Critic Alexei Navalny Sentenced To 19 More Years In Prison

On August 4, prominent Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was sentenced to 19 years in prison. As Moscow’s assault on Ukraine enters its second year, the move comes amid a historic crackdown on dissenting voices. Navalny is currently imprisoned in Melekhovo Penal Colony No. 6, about 240 kilometres east of Moscow. He is serving a total of eleven and a half years in prison for parole violations, fraud, and contempt of court charges that he believes are “completely political in nature.”
