Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that companies no longer need to wait for a longer period to construct India’s first fully designed and manufactured aircraft, given India’s strong ‘Make In India’ policy and stable governance.
Modi was speaking after inaugurating the new state-of-the-art Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) campus in Devanahalli near Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.
The PM emphasised that India should speed up the efforts to make a leading aircraft manufacturing ecosystem by tapping into the MSME network and the diverse talent pool.

“We have to speed up the process of establishing the aircraft manufacturing ecosystem in India. We have a robust network of MSMEs, talent pool, stable governance and strong Make In India policy. This makes it a win-win situation for all the sectors. ‘
Modi also launched the Boeing Sukanya Programme that aims at supporting the entry of more girl children into the country’s growing aviation sector.
The programme will provide opportunities for girls and women to learn critical skills in the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) fields and train in the aviation sector.

For young girls, the programme will create STEM Labs at 150 places to help spark interest in STEM careers. The programme will also provide scholarships to women who are training to be pilots.
PM stressed that India is a hub for STEM education and that more girls are taking up STEM courses than boys in India. He also said that India is better placed in the global scale in terms of women participation in the aviation industry.

“Of all the pilots in India, women account for 15%. This is three times more than the global average. India is making continuous efforts to provide opportunities for women in the aviation and aerospace sector and make them fighter pilots. The Boeing Sukanya programme will inspire more women to take up aviation as a career,” said Modi.
Highlighting India’s growth in the civil aviation sector in the last 10 years, Modi said India’s count of operational airports has jumped from 70 in 2014 to 150 in 2024 and India has become the third largest market in domestic aviation.

“The domestic passenger count in India is going to increase in the coming years, which is why Indian airline companies have given orders for 100 aircraft.
With the improvement in the efficiency and capacity of Indian airports, the cargo sector has grown, making international markets more accessible. India is also making efforts to reduce offshore reliability on leasing and financing aircraft,” said Modi.

“With over 25 crore people lifted out of poverty in the last nine years, many Indians are now leading a neo middle class life and every income group is seeing an upper mobility growth,” the PM said.
To support the demand for pilots and mechanics in the Indian aviation industry, Boeing will invest in simulator infrastructure, software, and the creation of training curriculum to support the country’s need for new pilots over the next 20 years.
Part of this investment will be directed towards supporting customers’ ambitions, as some companies such as Air India plans to establish their own training business.

Built with an investment of Rs 1,600 crores, the 43-acre campus at Devanahalli near Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru is Boeing’s largest such investment outside the US.

Boeing’s new campus in India is expected to become a cornerstone for partnership with the vibrant startup, private and government ecosystem in India, and help develop next generation products and services for the global aerospace and defence industry.
