The Recommendation To Add The Site To The UNESCO World Heritage List Was Was Announced By Union Minister G Kishan Reddy In May.
He Said In A Tweet, “Great News For India On The Jayanti Of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Santiniketan In West Bengal Has Been Recommended For Inscription To The World Heritage List By ICOMOS, The Advisory Body To UNESCO World Heritage Centre.”
International Council On Monuments And Sites (ICOMOS) Is A France-Based International Body Dedicated To The Conservation And Enhancement Og Global Architecture And Heritage.

He Was Born In Calcutta On 7th May 1861.
He Was Also Referred To As ‘Gurudev’, ‘Kabiguru’, And ‘Biswakabi’.
Composed Over 2000 Songs And His Songs And Music Are Called ‘Rabindra Sangeet’.
He Published His First Poems Aged 16 Under The Pen-Name ‘Bhanusimha’.
Gave The National Anthems For Two Countries, India And Bangladesh.
In 1915 He Was Awarded Knighthood By The British King George V. In 1919, Following The Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre, He Renounced His Knighthood. He Died On 7th August 1941 In Calcutta.

Poet Rabindranath Tagore Won The Nobel Prize For Literature In 1913 For His Collection Gitanjali Published In London In 1912.

Santiniketan Is A Renowned Cultural And Heritage Place Located In Birbhum District, West Bengal, India. It Holds Historical Significance And Is Known For Its Association With Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

Santiniketan, Popularly Known Today As A University Town, A Hundred Miles To The North Of Kolkata, Was Originally An Ashram Built By Debendranath Tagore, Where Anyone, Irrespective Of Caste And Creed, Could Come And Spend Time Meditating On The One Supreme God.

Rabindranath Tagore First Visited Shantiniketan On 27 January 1878 When He Was 17 Years Old.
On 22nd December 1901, Rabindranath Tagore Established His School At Santiniketan With Five Students (Including His Eldest Son) And An Equal Number Of Teachers. He Originally Named It Brahmacharya Ashram In The Tradition Of Ancient Forest Hermitages.

Centre For Art Based On Ancient Indian Traditions And A Vision Of The Unity Of Humanity Transcending Religious And Cultural Boundaries.
A ‘World University’ Was Established At Santiniketan In 1921, Recognizing The Unity Of Humanity Or “Visva Bharati”.

Distinct From The Prevailing British Colonial Architectural Orientations Of The Early 20th Century And Of European Modernism, Santiniketan Represents Approaches Toward A Pan-Asian Modernity, Drawing On Ancient, Medieval And Folk Traditions From Across The Region.
