Ramaswamy, a 38-year-old born in Ohio to immigrant parents from southern India, was one of the surprises of the 2024 Republican race dominated by former President Trump.
Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has dropped out of the 2024 presidential race after a fourth-place finish in the Republican Iowa caucuses, widely considered an indicator of the road ahead.

The 38-year-old political novice, who sought to replicate Trump’s rise as a bombastic, wealthy outsider, said he called the former president Donald Trumpto congratulate him on his victory in Iowa.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came in second, with former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley just behind in third.

“There is no path for me to be the next president,” said the biotech entrepreneur, announcing his support for former president Donald Trump, whose landslide victory in the Iowa caucus re-established him as the Republican frontrunner.
The Iowa caucus, the first vote in the US presidential race, is a major election test for candidates.
The Iowa caucuses are quadrennial electoral events for the Democratic and Republican parties in the U.S. state of Iowa. Unlike primary elections, where registered voters cast ballots at polling places on election day, Iowa caucuses are meetings where voters gather to discuss and select candidates for their registered party. Political parties hold the caucuses, in contrast to most state-run primaries.
Vivek Ramaswamy failed to make a mark as he finished last, after the twice-impeached former president as well as rivals Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley.
I looked at every which way, and I think it’s true that we did not achieve the surprise that we wanted to deliver tonight… As of this moment, we are going to suspend this presidential campaign,” he told reporters in Iowa as the results of the caucus came in.

After dropping out of the 2024 presidential race on January 16, Vivek Ramaswamy has now appeared on stage with Donald Trump in New Hampshire. Shortly after quitting, Ramaswamy endorsed Trump, who won the Iowa caucus. The two have now appeared together at a campaign event at the Atkinson Resort and Country Club in Atkinson, New Hampshire

While other candidates like Haley criticised Trump’s policies, Ramaswamy praised the former President throughout his campaigns and even vowed to pardon him if elected. Trump has lauded Ramaswamy’s campaign and even signalled that he would be open to having him as his running mate, stating that “He would be very good”.

Ramaswamy, has been one of Trump’s staunchest defenders against the four indictments levelled against him. He has dubbed him as the “greatest President” of the 21st century and even vowed to pardon Trump from all charges, on his first day in office.
However, things abruptly changed when Trump attacked Ramaswamy by calling his campaign “deceitful” and urging his supporters not to “waste” their vote on him.

However, Ramaswamy still said he won’t criticise the former President and reiterated his earlier stance that Trump indeed is the “greatest President” of the 21st century.
Ramaswamy, who funded his campaign through his personal wealth in biotechnology and finance, called Trump the “best president of the 21st century” even as he tried to convince Republican voters that they should opt for “fresh legs” and “take our America First agenda to the next level.”
